Larry Wheels - Benches 675

You have douche's like Huckleberry bopping around the gym like a douche pulling his pants down, then you have calm, cool Larry benching 675.

Extremely impressive.

Without the elbow wraps (are these even some-fed-legal?), and with a legit (non-compression-push) pause, Larry is worth something in the low 600s.

I believe his in-meet best is ... 620? Something like that.

I don’t think his bench has improved from that performance, judging by this video. By this I mean, Wheels wouldn’t have paused 620 on this day.

I’m gonna say it. Larry’s never going to press seven. Even with a major bodyweight increase, another 80-100 pounds when you’re over six is an unbelievable leap. The horsepower increase requirement becomes exponentially greater for ever-smaller improvements to weight moved.

Incredible how easy he makes his warmup sets look. He makes 405 look like 135

Ted still owns Raw Records (for full meets) weighting what Larry does today, curious to see if Larry can break that 275 one. (Which he weighs today).

I can't even smith machine bench 70 lbs without damaging my shoulders

Incomprehensible to me how people can push such weights around without irreversible damage to their joints

Ted recently got both shoulders and both knee's done (not replaced, just smoothed down and capped with some futuristic polymer shit).

Takes its toll on people...

Why not? When I bench heavy I didn’t have a spot at all?I could rip that off him very easily. How many people you need to spot you?Larry is a beast at worst he’s gonna be able to press 500 if it’s a really bad day so the spotter don’t have to pull much.

Very likely you’re benching incorrectly. In other words, “bodybuilding-style” technique.

Elbows flared, and with an improper set up: shoulders not behind the chest and a flat-back position.

Too many spout horseshit about the arches usually observed on successful/high-level bench pressers. Sure, this can be taken to an extreme, but make no mistake. A tight and prounced arch is the correct and advantageous biomechanical shape to achieve.

Pinched upper back, pecs higher than your shoulders and the elbows pulled into the sides of the body on the eccentric portion of the stroke.

With this, most wouldn’t ever experience much of any shoulder issues.

I think a Prime Andrew Collura of the Delray Misfits was stronger.  No wraps or anything.  650.

should stop wearing those wraps

he will develop a weakness in his tricep and when he doesn't have them wraps in competition it will snap.

if you injure yourself during a heavy lift you can easily manage anyway without any risk of making the injury worse

I think the most impressive bencher ever was Glen Chabot. I don't know as much on PL as you do, but I never saw such incredible explosion with such massive weight in anyone else.

Who is stronger: powerlifters, strongmen, or Olympic lifters?
