Guns, in general, are a big waste of time and money.  Having one inside the house is a good thing in case somebody breaks in, you reach it and boom, done deal.

But in general is just a waste, Man. Learn some type of Martial Art instead and or carry your piece, but having 15 or 20 all over the house is always an accident waiting  to happen

Enlighten us on how being an expert in Martial Arts, which takes years and decades of training and experience, would stop a crazy person with a gun?

Pellius, when you got in the bum fight, did you consider the consequences, if the fight got bloody?  STDs, HIV, Hepatitis, etc?  Did you break skin on the bum or yourself?  Have you been tested since the fight?  

Anything can happen in any situation. Even if if I was totally within my rights and shot someone I know it isn't going to end there. There will be lawyers, court costs, a police report, all that may effect how I am judged and perceived in future behavior and actions. The bum may have had a knife or maybe his friends would have jumped me.

I am motivated not just by consequences -- what may happen -- but by doing what I believe is the right thing. If you threaten me, harass me, attack me, you're going to get it back. I'm not going to be preoccupied with whether or not I get beat up (which has happened) or that things may go bad for me (it has). I'm a human being just like you and expect to be treated with the dignity and respect that I will grant you unless you behave otherwise.

It just goes to show how much has changed that I even have to explain it.

Take your point but the reality is there are guns and millions of them in circulation. We have to deal with it from that point as it will never go back to the point where guns are few and far between. Banning guns now will not magically remove them from society, unfortunately it will stack them in the hands of criminals and make for a far more dangerous environment for the law abiding.
