Ted and AOC working together

"Out of 44 members of Congress who either retired or lost their seats in the midterms, 26 went on to get jobs at lobbying firms — nearly two-thirds, the Public Citizen report found. The vast majority of them were Republicans, but one notable Democrat who went from the Hill to a lobbying firm was former House Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, whom Ocasio-Cortez defeated in 2018."

This should concern both sides of the aisle

I might be the least educated on this.

Still…

The 1st amendment acknowledges the right to petition (lobby) the government.
The proposed law would mean that anyone elected to congress could not enjoy their
1st amendment rights in full.  I suspect Ted is playing AOC.  I am interested in where
this goes.

The real answer is to reduce the size of the regulatory state so there isn’t so much incentive the lobby. The whole reason that they’re lobbying is to put rules and regulations in place that favor their clients.

The way I read it, it means that after their service in Congress, they could not join lobbying groups. I think the intention is to stop former congressmen from using their connections in congress to push their agenda.

Why?  There are lobbyists on both sides so what's the problem?

The problem seems obvious to me. 1. a congressperson is susceptible to favoring corporations while in office in order to gain favor and a job when they depart. 2. A government official using his connections gained as a government official to further their bank account upon leaving by then lobbying for a company seems on the service unethical. Combining the 2 and you have a recipe for corruption. An elected officials focus should be on what is best for the country or their constituents, not a corporation with deep pockets.

Isn't this what AOC and Cruz are trying to stop? That's what it seemed like to me, if so, it's a good thing.

I agree with number 1, but partially with number 2. I’d say they can do what they want once out, but that they are not allowed to hold office again having been a lobbyist. Or at least if they do become a congressman again, must recuse themselves from anything to do with that lobby.

Maybe I misread his comment. He said there were LOBBYIST on both sides...not representatives. I took it to mean, "both parties have congressmen leaving office and working for lobbying firms, what's the problem?"

What democrat politicians want is no lobbying by republicans.  The NRA and Heritage Foundation should be banned but not Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.  Another reason democrats like banning former politicians as lobbyists is because democrats rarely go from government to the private sector.  Republicans usually come from the private sector into government and then back into the private sector.  Democrats from college to government where they stay for life.  AOC is an example of someone who couldn't get any job in the private sector above bartender and would never be hired by anyone in the private sector after her government job.

can you post a link supporting your claim? Seems that with AOC and Cruz working together it would mean both parties, not just Republican. Is there something I missed where it will just apply to one party or are you spreading false information like a Russian troll?

I'm not a fan of hers, but didn't she graduate with honors from Boston University and win some award from MIT for a project? And if just a regular bartender beat the 4th highest member of the House Democratic caucus and the Republican opponent at 28, thats pretty impressive wouldn't you say?

Ha, ha, that degree from Boston U must be worth shit then.  She beat an over confident democrat who didn't even bother showing up to a debate with her.  Republicans never even come close to winning that district full of poor losers so it isn't even worth the time to put your name on the ballet.

I don't hate AOC at all.  She gives me great comedic relief watching her gaffes on an almost daily basis.  Representatives from inner city districts just have to defeat other feeble minded democrats by playing Santa Claus with promises of free gibs and acknowledging the victimhood status of the residents.  They continue making promises to the constituents year after year while nothing ever really changes for those people and never will.

AOC, Sheila Jackson Lee, Ilhan Omar and Maxine Waters are just a few examples.
