The one that caught me really bad was an older man named J V Askem, who was Jesse Marunde's coach for many years. He got sick while was writing a history of Olympic Lifting, and a few other things, and it was hard to watch him dying while trying to get things done -

The medical updates -

His actual training page - http://www.ontariostrongman.ca/jva/index.htm .

Yeah , remember the gentleman.

How many posters here are veterans from the Old School Strength Training board?   ;D

I remember on the Aussie bodybuilding boards some guys were laughing at Zyzz's death for some reason like he wasn't a BBer but then crying when Luke Wood died. Made no sense. Both used way too much shit, Zyzz like a lot of kids I see these days mixing everything together like Caps/Xanax/fuck knows what else, he was just doing Steroids on top.

Weight-training enthusiast and journalist Steve Neece collapsed in front of a store’s magazine rack and briefly pounded his own chest, screaming, “No! No! No!”

Good guy.

Art Atwood was walking along the pool, grasped his chest, fell into the pool, and died

Bah. He was only several months older than me at the time - 37 is too young.

I can’t have any sympathy for guys drugged to the gills. If I had to pick, I’d say Mike Matarazzo because he seemed like a genuinely good guy and was scared at the end and not in denial about his lifestyle.

I suppose rec drugs combined with never being under 260-lb could do it.

Was Don Ross also a powerlifter, Tom?

Don and I were friend for many years. Don never competed in the sport of Powerlifting but was very close to many lifters and always took pride in being able to move a lot of weight for a bodybuilder. Don was an excellent athlete and understood the huge difference in bodybuilding and powerlifting and knew how each could compliment the other.

He was a huge fan of all bodybuilders, powerlifters, weight lifters, pro wrestlers, strongeman competitors. Just love the entire "iron game."

He came to see me in prison. Huge bonus points for that. 😀

If you placed 7th in a Bodybuilding show or won the overall he treated you the same.

Good man indeed.

Poor Don Ross.....a little too late for him :(
I remembered he loved eating raw beef......"why cook it, when you can just eat it raw?"
Ron will always be remembered <3

Don did Keto before keto was cool. He ate huge quantities of red meat. Never saw him eat raw red meat, but saw him eat PLENTY of meat.  It may certainly have accelerated his demise.

              pro wrestler the ripper.

Excellent and absolutely correct. Don's Pro Wrestling name was Ripper Savage. Great shot of Don and Serge Nubret.

Are people who die on Everest sadder or not as sad?  I think the list is longer but not sure.

TOMMY, I also knew Don while he was residing in Hawaii going through some difficut times.

Did my best to help him  but he suddenly disappeared ad returned to the mainland.
