If more money is equal to more happiness, then:
By your logic, Jeff Bezos is happier than Jay-Z because he has more money.
By your logic, Jay-Z is happier now that he is a billionaire and was less happy when he had 800 million.
These do not seem plausible.
Is Jay-Z necessarily happier than the Medical Doctor who makes 500K a year? At some point, there has to be a cut off, where money stops influencing happiness. According to the study I posted above, 105K seems to be the cuttoff, whereas, if you make more than 105K, it doesn't seem to affect happiness. If you think about it, making 50 million a year or making 105K a year will still grant you all that you pretty much need in life to be happy. Granted, the person who makes 50 million a year can take more trips and buy a more expensive car, but will that necessarily lead to more happiness? If I won the lottery tomorrow, I do not think I would necessarily be more happier. Id be able to buy a more expensive car, which might make me happier for, say, a week, but its likely to affect my overall level of happiness in the long-term.
