I have Hepatitus B which lies dormant in my system.
A few years later I was informed that I also have Hepatitus C.
Remakably enough my last visit to my doc I was told my Hep C was no longer present in my system.............compl etely erradicated and I took no meds for it.
My liver has no visible scarring,no lesions, and my liver enzyme count is perfect.
This is great! Some people don't have such a great ability to heal. I didn't think it was possible to cure hepatitis C until the new meds were recently allowed on the market. A friend of my who had hepatitis C for most of his adult life, took these drugs and is now hep C free. His insurance covered it which is great since the series runs about $30,000.
I have some confusion regarding hepatitis. I once had hepatitis A and was sick as a dog for several weeks. Since I ate out all the time county health said it would be impossible to pinpoint which restaurant I may have got it from. I've never had hepatitis B and yet I have antibodies for it. It's possible I had the series of shots to prevent hepatitis B because the school district I worked for not only recommended them they paid for them. Unfortunately, I don't have a record of them.
Regardless, this has become a problem because my hematocrit is on the high side but within limits. My urologist wants me to bring it down. One way to do this is to donate blood. Red Cross doesn't want my blood because of the hepatitis B antibodies. My son who is a world traveler for the government, has also had the series of hepatitis B shots and he also can't give blood.
In the past, I drank as much as a pint of alcohol in an evening for several years. Despite this my liver enzymes are right were they should be. Guess I must be doing something right.
