Did one of Eric’s posts have a claim of him trading stock from inside prison??
Eric - please educate me on the market.
Was during the crash. 07-10.
Was lucky enough to be housed in what was a former University campus, complete with university library. I worked for the states Historical Society and archive unit, which was located in the library, so I had access to all the textbooks I wanted on finance, accounting, etc...
Most of the people I associated with were "white.collsr" guys. Insurance agents, etc... Was friends with a guy who was also Interested in the "stock market" but he had more long term Investment Interests and didn't have the stomach for short term trades.he was my source for Investors Business Daily (IBD) & the Wall Street Journal. I convinced him to have his sister open an account with Interactive Brokers, which at the time had the best margins and lowest commissions per trade. He, his partner and his sister all put cash into the account. I'd be up early watching CNBC before breakfast (5am or so) and before going to work, then watching again during lunch, and after work.... Pretty much all day long. Everyday I'd call his sister and tell her what to buy (market orders/limit.orders etc...), what to sell, what to short and when to cover the shorts. She lived in a neighboring state so I had to take into account the cost of each phone call into the profit/,loss of each trade. Eventually I figured out she could get a "Magic Jack" as a phone line and get the area code as being a local #, cutting that cost by 75+%.
Ran that thing like a mini-hedgefund and operated as a proprietary Equity trader. Kept me busy and looked forward to every day. My bunk was covered in ticker-symbols and prices and well as dozens of notebooks full of notes.
Had I not had a felony, and could go back 19+yrs, I'd go back to school for finance/(macro)economics.
Running a "store" (lending commissary items plus "juice"(interest), as well as hard-money lending ("loan sharking") in prison is a study in economics. You're dealing with a micro-economy.
