They were some tough dudes.  They grew up in a hard time. Too bad they don't teach history correctly these days.

He was a member of the 101st Airborne. A legendary unit. They parachuted into hell on D-Day. They continued to fight until they made it to Germany.  The tactics of Lt. Dick Winters are still taught to officers in school. They ended up sitting on Hitler's furniture drinking his wine at his vacation home as their final fuck you to him. They are dying out quickly. In a few years they won't be around. Truly the great generation.  

On a side note Major Winters lived in obscurity until the series Band of Brothers was made. Then the poor old man had a constant stream of people ringing his door bell.
