Sadly the worlds strongest gay didn't make the final. 2 Scottish brothers Tom and Luke Stoltman who are friends on mine both made it. Shaw, Thor, Licis, Janashia, Kieliszkowski, Bishop, Caron and Mitchell also in final.

They must be FC Celtic supporters  ;)

Aye very good, not with these genetics :D
They are actually Ross County fans seeing as they are from the middle of nowhere in the eastern highlands.  Luke works on the oil rigs so I've known him for a while via sponsorship through my old hazardous area controls business supplying the rigs.

Thor has a nasty injury so the final is open to anyone. Young Tom Stoltman is in with a chance as he's close to Thor's size already and the final events suit his strengths.

I take back what I said about Thor faking his injury so he has to do less events before the final. He did get lucky with the deadlift though in his group and had to do less reps compared to Shaw to get through.

Looks like a few guys got injured in the Farmer's Walk and Yoke event.

Two Achilles torn, two athletes dropped out. Both Laurence Shahlaei (Great Britain) and Sigfus Fossdal (Iceland) have dropped out of the 2019 World’s Strongest Man event due to injuries sustained on the first day of competition.

Day 1’s events comprised of a Monster Truck Pull and a Farmer’s Walk & Yoke Walk Medley of a 168kg farmer’s walk for 15 meters, 450kg yoke for 6 meters, and 595kg yoke for 2.5 meters. That’s a lot of strain on the calves and Achilles.

This was Fossdal’s first time competing in the competition and while he hasn’t yet made a public statement, Starting Strongman’s Calle Beck reported that he ended the competition with 1 point and withdrew after tearing his right Achilles tendon.

The 36-year-old Shahlaei, meanwhile, has been active on Instagram and YouTube, going so far as to call this the end of his WSM career. Here’s his Instagram post.

Unfortunately my WSM career has ended in one of the worst ways I could’ve imagined – a ruptured Achilles’ tendon during the 600kg yoke.

To say I’m pretty devastated right now would be an understatement. Right now I need time to process everything and concentrate on getting this fixed. Thank you all for your unwavering support. It’s especially appreciated at times like this.

Damn that's too bad for Shahlaei! Oberst also ripped his bicep in the stone duel between 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

Many feel Novikov got robbed because he performed better in the other lifts. Gotta say the duel between 2nd and 3rd seems unfair because the guys that won the duel are going into the final tomorrow without getting a rest. Meanwhile the guys that came first in their groups the day before received a full day of rest. I don't get it.

Agree WSM need to be taken over and revamped! The group concept makes no sense and no-one could prepare fully because they didn't know the events until a few weeks out.  It's nice to see the young American get in who beat Novikov but he won't fare nearly as well in the finals. Oh and the first group had to lift heavier weights in the melody because they made mistakes with the weight loading. ::)

To top it off WSM has tried to black it out rather than live stream like Arnold does.  It's growing because of social media and guys like Shaw have close to 1M YT followers.  There is a lot of protesting occurring on line just read the comments under that leaked video.

So, Kearney 5' 9" 300 pounds.  Ivan Putski sized.

Surprised that such a man is competitive with the giants of today.

What?! 5'9"??

If Arnold was 6'1.5" in his prime and is maybe a hair over 6'0" today, I would say Kearney looks around 5'11" in that photo.

Dimitar Savatinov is my height - 5'8.5" / 174cm, and I was happy to see him place 7th in 2015. I'm also glad to see JF Caron make the finals again to represent Canada.

I remember reading that Kearney was a bender on here. I did not know he was good enough for WSM. I didn't realize he was one of those "Woe is me - I'm an oppressed bender!" / Oppression Olympics benders though. It's 2019. No need for that.

I grow tired of benders complaining about fake oppression. "Wah! Wah! Benders couldn't fight and die in the Vietnam War!" Shut up. Fuck. Fucking tossers.

Kearney's eyes comes to Arnold's nose or even a bit lower. Arnold is under 6' these days, probably around 5'-10" or 5'-11". If Kearney claims 5'-9" that means he is probably 5'-8" since we all know everyone adds an inch or two to their height.

What you are saying about height is accurate. So the coveted 6'0 male is actually closer to 5'10.5"...or even 5'10". Apparently men add 20% to their penis size.

So from now on, I'm 5'10", with a 7.8" penis.

Eddie Hall is billed at 6'-3". There is a video on youtube where he says he is actually 6'-2.5" tall but rounded it off to 6'-3" because it is easier to say and sounds more impressive. We all round our heights off. For all we know Thor is 6'-8.5" and rounds it off to 6'-9".

The Big Show is not 7'-0" tall either. I am guessing he is about 6'-11" and maybe even less these days.

Andre the Giant was always billed with a taller height than he really ways. But he had a monstrous head and hands which really reinforced the giant label.

Now one guy that is big as hell is Brian Shaw. You can just tell in videos the guys is massive even though only 6'-8". Andre the Giant had stick arms and legs compared to Shaw. Shaw's forearms are huge!

The Eddie Brian show starts at 3:00. :D  These guys are legit funny and so much cooler then bodybuilders. In one of Brian's videos Eddie is joking with him because Brian split the bed in two.

Funny thing - I was just thinking about Andre The Giant. I watched his HBO documentary last night. Highly recommended.

Hafthor looks half an inch taller than Shaw. Shaw claims 6'8.5", and there is a tendency to be more truthful if people say halfs.

I have always said 5'8.5". Just seemed honest. I am 5'9.3" in the morning...but I just say 5'8.5".

I'd be curious to see Shaw next to Big Show.

Andre was probably 7'1".

Big Show was huge back in the day. A legit 500 lbs I believe. But Brian Shaw carries a lot more muscle than him. Thor looks about 1" taller than Shaw but Brian appears to be broader by a tiny bit. Both big dudes though. I'd be interested to see Big Show and Shaw side by side also. I have not yet seen a pic of anyone dwarfing Shaw or making him look smaller. I am sure there is some freak out there perhaps. The odd 8' guy that weights 350-400 lbs is not going to dwarf Shaw.

7'-2" Olivier Richters is not dwarfing the Mountain. He also did not make Piana look small.

Richters next to 7'-4" Rob Zwaan.

Surprising results. Licis is likeable, I just never thought he was going to take it. Though he was a close second behind Thor at the Arnold's also earlier in the year.

But let's face it he is not the strongest. He does not have the best deadlift, squat or overhead press in him yet. This contest was more a test of who was the fastest and some other forms of strength. At the 2017 WSM they had a max deadlift event which is way more impressive. It is fun to see the guys duke it out to see who can go the heaviest. Going for the highest reps as they did this year is not as impressive.

And the 600 kg yoke was just setting competitors up for injury. I'd rather see a huge deadlift or overhead press than who can run the fastest with the yoke.

I am surprised Shaw lost to Licis in the grip test. His grip is the best in the world and with his huge hands a clear advantage. Maybe he was on growth hormone for the hamstring injury and that weakened his grip? Curious to hear what he has to say about that.

I would have liked to see him take a 5th title and instead he finished 6th!

Yeah this year's contest was pretty much fucked all the way around.  Too bad they can't just re-do the thing.

No thread on this?

Hafthor made up for points lost on Day One where he had an injury, confirmed by MRI, and placed third.

Canada's Jean Francois Caron placed 4th! He beat Brian Shaw, who placed 5th.
