What Is The Best Music Platform? I'm Done With Itunes!
« on: June 16, 2019, 05:56:16 PM »
Goormorrow,

Any info on a good music storage app/site that will enable you to download, store and buy music besides iTunes? Apple has you in shackles and I'm noticing all the CD's I put in iTunes are no greyed out because I did not purchase them on their site. Even the greyed out songs that I bought on iTunes over 10 years ago are greyed out.

Anyone?

I'm curious - did you perform a recent update to itunes?
Did you move or alter your itunes media folder?

I have 8,600 songs in itunes, and only 226 are itunes purchases.  All display in my library perfectly.
A couple years ago I experienced some awful failures with itunes that took a while to resolve.  The
problem started when I blithely did an update, ignorant of the consequences.  I only update after
researching the consequences.  Back up your library to multiple media!

Your problem is not unique.  I found potential solutions here:

Tried them all.

Even songs I paid for are showing up with the gray exclamation point and not found. I have over 1000 songs not found which really upsets me since most of them I paid for on iTunes and the rest I put in the system with CD's.
It seems that iTunes figures out what music is not on their system and stops it from being played. This is why some of the older iTunes music I bought are not showing up.
All music is on my Ipod Classic. Which all them play. All I did is transfer what I had on the Ipod to the iTunes.

It should be that simple since the Ipod itself is like an external harddrive but NOPE!  What a let down.

I agree.  Apple changed itunes to allow purchases of only music, forcing users to buy and install apps
using the device itself.  I can think of no reason to remove this option.  ???  I've used many workarounds
to get itunes to function the way I want.  If itunes and apple products didn't work so damn well most of the
time, I would go to a different platform, but I don't know which.

Anyway...Log into itunes with your computer and download all music purchases.  I've done this with multiple
computers.  I've actually called apple and spoken to a person to resolve an issue.  Try that, if necessary.

Did you transfer ipod tunes to itunes on your computer via the following method?

I watched that video, it doesn't work.

This is what is happening. The songs I've downloaded years ago, say in 2009, 2010, etc. etc. aren't there. It seems Apple puts a copyright into the song. Those older songs and imported CD's do not have that. Also, Apple recognizes what songs are available in their platform. When its not they feel the song is a bootleg and you can no longer listen to it.
Apple wants to control what you listen to AND what is available for you to listen to...just like our Liberal politicians. Seriously, I bought an album years ago and then it disappeared only to be purchased in the UK store. The album has disappeared from my iTunes library even though I paid for it, iTunes USA were selling it but now something happened to make it not available in the USA and POOF...gone. They say to re down load the bought songs BUT I have close to a thousand of them. Screw that...too much wasted time.
I have since went to Amazon Music which really impressed me so far. I purchased CD years ago and when I downloaded the app, signed in...those CD's I purchased...were already downloaded for me. Screw Apple, I'm about to switch phones too. Tired of having Apple "all up in my biness".

When I want to listen to Music I go to YouTube as you can usually find a live performance that’s better than any studio version.

So true, I do this all the time.  Then if I want it for myself I just copy it into a file converter site, download it, and it's mine forever.

I've never understood why anyone would ever buy anything from iTunes.

The only catch is that you can’t leave YouTube without the music stopping, (unless there’s a way I don’t know about)

If YouTube went to some type of audio advertising, it would be game over for streaming services.
