My potassium level cam 5.7, supposely thats high and that can lead to heart attack. Is this because of steroid use. Anybody have experience on that?
The normal reference range for serum potassium is 3.5 – 5.3 mmol/L.
If you are under 2.5 or OVER 7, then immediate medical attention is needed.
Were you dehydrated prior to the blood test and were you on a low sodium intake? Both can skew the numbers for potassium.
IF you were having hyperkalemia, you would have had side effects that would mimic an oncoming heart attack. 5.7 may be considered hyperkalaemia though, so perhaps ask a doctor.
Were you taking any diuretics. Did you take NSAID prior to blood work?
I see that you went for a second round... what changed between the two rounds of blood work? Maybe you actually drank more water prior to getting the blood work done and had a higher intake of sodium? It could be as simple as that.
However, if you believe its an issue and it comes up again during your next blood work... GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR and be open about what your doing to yourself and what symptoms you are experiencing!
