You can have 100+ gram of sugar a day from anything and lose weight if you’re in a calorific deficit, but that’s just common sense.

There is no difference you are correct. Fiber does change the glycemic index to a degree and the load but the glucose and fructose are exactly the same as it is found anywhere else.

Necrosis, I was hoping you would post here. I remember you were studying nutrition at a very high level (grad school or post-grad ?). I am wondering, as it isnt clear to me in the research I have done, the fate of excess fructose after liver glycogen is full. I read a study that indicated roughly 50% of fructose was converted to glucose and "sent into circulation" to be used as glycogen. This seemed to indicate that fructose does work to fill skeletal muscle glycogen after liver glycogen has been replenished. Is that correct in your understanding? I used to be under the impression that the majority of excess fructose, after liver glycogen had been filled, was simply converted to fats and sent into circulation to be either burned for fuel or stored as body fat. But I am hoping this is not the case and that the excess gets sent into circulation as glucose to be used for muscle glycogen, as the one study I read seemed to indicate.

The sugar could possibly be an issue if you ate a bunch of fruit and nothing else.  But combined with some protein and fat--ie: eaten within the context of a meal--and it's a non-issue.

Plus fruit is delicious and more nutrient dense than most (if not all) starches and it's a no brainer to me

Contrary to popular mainstream misinformation, FAT is the bodies preferred fuel source. When glucose is present however , it will burn that first in order to maintain healthy levels of blood sugar.

Hey! I ended up doing medicine!

You are correct on both counts, fructose does fill glycogen downstream but its more apt to be converted to fat as generally people have enough readily available glucose floating around. Nighttime is when the fructose to fat conversion is more likely to occur as both liver and muscle glycogen is replete!

Even the staunchest anti-sugar advocate gives fruit a pass... By why? A normal apple has 20-50 grams of sugar. Five servings of fruit a day? Probably over 100 grams of sugar, any way you alive it.

Some authorities say not to eat more than 25 grams of sugar a day. Everyone loves to hate soda, which has 40-50 grams a can. Whats the difference between eating a couple fruits and drinking a can of soda?

Some people mention the fiber... Do you really believe it "slows absoption"? Subjectively, I don't feel anything to confirm this oft-cited reason, not have I ever seen any research to suggest this.

Micronutrients? Plug fruit into chronometer... It has very little. Eat your vegetables and whatever micros you get from fruit will be a negligible portion of your overall intake. A bunch of spinach, broccoli, carrots, kale, and bell peppers would be a much better investment. Same with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and all the other mystery nutrients that the plant-based gurus prattle on about.

Seriously, I don't get it. Have a candy bar, chocolate bar, or soda and you're killing babies, but remember to get three to five servings of fruit!
Where did you get those numbers.
Scandinavian Apple, avg 200grams has apprx 70kcal.

Do they inject US apples with corn syrup or what?

Im no nutritionist. But what about vitamins and antioxidans.
Cleansing properties of fruit like pineaplle. Kiwis are full of vitamins and minerals etc.
Comparing soda to natural fruit makes little sense to me.

A lot of the smaller organic fruits are probably around 200g. I've seen apples as big as 900g here (not exaggerating) and honeycrisps are often 400+.

I wouldn't, fructose isnt really insulinogenic so it won't help with nutrient absorption or glycogen repletion, pure glucose or one of the newer carbs that increase glycogen would be best. You would want insulin around after working out and sensitivity is greatly enhanced.

I don't see any good reason to. Veggies really do have far more nutrients then fruits, I would think of fruits more as desert.

Crazy straw man is right. Low sugar berries are fantastic sources of phytonutrients and fiber which many people don’t get enough of. Blueberries are also very good for the brain and can help with memory retention. HTH

Depends of variety & market demands, Cavendish is usually 200 gr & 25cm long, U can have double joint of + 400gr.
Coffs Harbour (Australia) is call Big banana town. If U eat blood (red) banana , Mr.Dracula would love U.

If U can, visit Australia & gigantic banana farms in northern NSW, Queensland & Northern Territory.Euro backpackers usually
work on those farms.

Just now mandarins season is on.
