Goodmorrow,

Vince McMahon wanted to make bodybuilding like Pro Wrestling, exciting, characters that would attract kids, women and men. It seems like Vince was ahead of his time because maybe today the WBF might have worked.
So what does bodybuilding need to make its contests exciting, not boring, same old same old?

Formal wear part?

Talent part?

Interview part?

Pyrotechnics?

Different venue?

There needs to be a build up to the contest. If you don't follow a bunch of Facebook, YouTube, Instagram accounts you really don't know who's competing or what their all about. There needs to be an official YouTube from the IFBB that actually builds up and creates a story each week leading to the Olympia. Maybe if we knew the backstory on each bodybuilder it would help the fan?

Any ideas?

the 1975 Olympia was the most exciting I think.... they need a build up today, some sort of rivalry, make a story out of it... idc if its real or fake

Just embrace Schmoedom, and go totally nude :).

None of these guys are interesting enough to bring back the 70's - 90's era of bodybuilding.

At least go to fig leaves, if full nude is too much -

.

Bring back the AAU Mr. America athletic points. Back then they had them do a total in the Clean and press, Snatch and Clean and Jerk. Imagine how weakened they were the day of the contest yet they needed those points.

Maybe now they can do a bodybuilding decathlon type event. Maybe 100 meter dash, half mile run, power clean and jerk, basket ball free throw and a MMA fight/boxing match. After the week of athletic points testing that could count for 50% of their score then they could pose in thongs oiled up to music before cheering men. I bet in order to get athletic points insulin, growth hormone and some other drugs would be left behind. The physiques would be less gigantic and more real for the general public.

I bet the current top five Olympia contestants now would probably record something like this.
100 meters: 15 seconds
Half mile: five minutes
Power clean and Jerk: 265lbs
Basket ball free throws: Bet Heath could hit 7 out of 10 and maybe 10 out of 10 on a good day.
MMA type fight or a boxing match for one round: It would be comical.

If there was some kind of system of athletic points the physiques would look drastically different but in my opinion in a good way. The Mr. Olympia winner might now weigh 210lbs.

So...it would be a crossfit contest.

Crossfit has none of those events. They do max repetitions with a time limit and the multiple events are done all at once. Quite different.

Just making an extreme point that it would be more interesting if they did something athletic.

As BB said, fig leaves need to make a resurgence as well as feats of strength. Pop a hot water balloon in front of a crowd while partially nude and make a statement!

Goodmorrow,

Like I said, the IFBB needs to create a YouTube channel with shows on it which leads up to the contest and makes it more interesting. Like a soap opera. We see how wrestling works and "real world" shows do so well. The one problem I see are that most of the bodybuilders have personalities of a wet gym sock. They can't "speak good" and are just plain uninteresting. Sad but bodybuilding needs to reinvent itself somehow to make more profits or...they make enough already, I guess.

WES, You know this 'game' as well as I do but ..... NPC and IFBB 'bodybuilding' sure ain't dead, KIMO-SABE!

Are you seeing something I ain't!?

As I see it ..... It's making a very large fortune for the 'administrators' at the top and a decent living for a handful of the pros.

And we will be watching it grow by the 'million-fold' as the NPC expands internationally.

Don't be surprised if we all  see a multi-billion dollar 'buy-out' somewhat similar to the $5,000,000,000 sale of the MMA to WME (William Morris Endeavor) which took place about 2 years ago.

Where do you see DEATH within the NPC/IFBB complex, WES? (Outside of the daily demise of those within the game of lifting heavy things!)

If a stock option (IPO) is ever offered, I'd suggest that we all jump in immediately.
