Where the guy was born is irrelevant. The issue is he cannot speak or understand English without an interpreter. Absolutely insane.
I suggest you do not move to Lawrence, MA unless you speak Spanish. It is clearly the dominate language there. Stay in Hawaii because English is the official language spoken in government functions.
Eighty-two percent of Lawrence, MA's population is Spanish speaking. Apparently, it is not insane to Lawrence's speaking folks who voted for Brian De Peņa. In 2021 he got 53% of the vote. His opponent, Kendrys Vasquez was also born in the Dominican Republic. He got 46% of the vote. There were no other candidates.
Brian De Peņa was re-elected Mayor last November. Brian's opponent was Juan "Manny" Gonzalez who was born in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico's native language is Spanish.
There is no state law requiring English fluency to become Mayor of Lawrence, MA.
