Weeks off from training can be nice...
« on: July 06, 2019, 12:33:46 PM »
So, some here know me, built 1st home gym in 1978 w/ my father. Drove to Ed Jubinville's in Holyoke MA, bought some benches, weights, etc.
Trained from Dec 1978/Jan 1979 to 2009 drug free. (30 years). Tried my 1st pro-hormone in 2009 thanks to a generous buddy.(Epidrol).

Put 30 lbs on my bench, 10 pounds on my body, lost it all after the 30-day "cycle". Just happened to get blood work done for my yearly physical and it was horrible when normally fine.
Tried a few more w/ the same outcome (feel like crap on them, lose all things gained right away).

Never really take time off from training, maybe 1-week per year. 2016 when turning 50, went on TRT. 125 mg a week now has me at 800+ (still in high-end range).

No longer natty and proud of it. (The "natty loudmouths" are a joke and normally look pathetic,t he rest lie).

Well this week is a nice/planned week off from training, just had blood work, everything perfect. (Cardiac CT Calcium scan re-do coming up as my heart rate wouldnt duck below 80).
Beta-blocker on the way for re-test. DO my blood-pressure and pulse at home or in CVS, everything perfect, go to Dr. or dentist it gets raised, which they say is normal. (A little Dr. anxiety).

Anyways, at advanced age, I really welcome the planned week off, injuries feel better, joints, mind gets a refresh, etc. Nice little July vacation this week, drinking a few beers, grilling, still chasing the old-lady around, lots of nude cardio.

Now cant wait to get back to the iron next week. Time off and recovery are important, need to step up my heart/cardio game as I age a bit now.

Happy July to the best people on the webz, GetBiggers (libatrd, pubtard, it dont matter, we all came here for one reason).

Every great warrior needs a rest from battle so he's fully energised when getting back in the war zone.

Time off is necessary to heal training PTSD.

Taking time off from training is great as long as not going to the gym doesn't become a long lasting habit. Monday - hit the gym.

Week off when your feeling shitty and have many aches and are rundown is awesome always come back to training feeling great. Planned weeks off are good also (holidays ect) I like to purposefully overtrain before these, skipping a deload in the weeks/months prior, taking everything to failure and upping the frequency a week or so before then having a week off living like a slob

only time off I'd ever let myself have some extended time off is whenever I have a 1 week holiday abroad. Which is like once a year-1.5 years lol.

My dad was just talking to me yesterday about his Ed Jubinville bench and how he advertised with an elephant standing on it. Funny that this was posted yesterday as well.

He knows nothing about the internet/using computers so I was able to plug it in google and one of the first things that came up was a thread on here from years ago.

You can take a month off from lifting with no negative effects. Decompensation doesn't even start to begin until after 3-4 weeks. Lots of studies on the NIH site show that. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1665027/

I was forced to take a layoff because of an infection a few years ago. 5 weeks with no lifting, no cycling, no nothing. Two weeks in the gym, twice a week, and I had regained all the strength I lost. In fact, in the third week I surpassed my prior personal bests in several exercises. Aerobically I went from cycling in group races at 25 mph average to being completely out of breath on a 5 mile ride. Again, two weeks later I had completely recovered.

Most people don't take advantage of 2 week breaks from lifting every 3 months or so. It completely regenerates you.

At most two days off and that’s rare, maybe after a hardcore bender. Even in Ibiza I’d truck my ass down the beach train, then I’d be ready for pool parties.

Same will go with Vegas next week.
