Back then ,the 1976 mr.O was totally up for grabs

previous year winner Arnold (retired )

2nd place Serge Nubret (Banned)

3er place Lou Ferrigno (retired)

and 3 times Mr.O genetic freak Sergio Oliva 3 years out (beef with the Weider brothers )

Is this 2019 Mr.O more dramatic than 1976 was with all the top names missing in action ?

Lou fucked up by retiring. He probably would have won in 76-83 while still making The Incredible Hulk tv series. Dieting for the show wouldn't have had any effect on his making the show and it would have brought more attention to the Mr.O and pro bodybuilding in general.

Jason (for whatever reason) doesn't have the dedication to get in truly ripped competition shape. He can do cardio but seemingly not the diet. Not everyone can, it's gruelling to go through a competition diet.

Big Louie is a professional bodybuilder and was not far off from beating Arnold. Check out pics from the '74 Olympia and also his return in the 1990s. He got in tremendous shape.

Is not the same scenario, one thing is having Arnold retired in 75 , who wanted to retired in 74 but did the 75 show because of the filming of pumping Iron , another thing is having current champ Rhoden banned from competing 2 months before the show. Aside from that is pretty much the same scenario.

No a real contender to take it all.

Could have easily done both and been known today as the greatest of all time. He came back in the 90's so it probably bothered him.

Exactly and the Mr.O was just a 10 years old contest, who knew at the time if is was going to last ?

without Arnold the contest was just pointless in Lou's eyes, Besides; Lou is more known that the Mr.Olympia and the IFBB thanks to the Hulk .
