I remember people complaining about this when Pudzianowski was winning WSM all the time. He was clearly not as "strong" by the classic strongman definition of that term as Savickas and some of the other bigger guys of the time but he was really fast in the more speed-oriented events.
I think Pudz placed 6th in the 2006 Arnold Pro Strongman - the same year he won WSM.
It was said that his sponsor Met-Rx, also the sponsor of WSM, rigged the contests to favour medium height competitors - and speed events too by the sound of things.
I would tend to subscribe to that.
Pudzianowski was never as strong as Mateusz, also from Poland, who placed 2nd at WSM this year.
