He is dropping weight because it was clear at the recent WSM that they were introducing events that required competitors to be faster. That's why a lighter guy like Licis was able to win. Licis is not the strongest as far as static lifts go but he is fast compared to the rest.

The Mountain has very wide shoulders and one inch on Brian Shaw but Brian's arms and legs look bigger to me and his gut slightly smaller as well. Shaw has gigantic forearms.

Not at his height. He should not have a problem getting down to 300- 350 lbs but that would mean eating less food and more cardio. But he sill loves competing in WSM and wants to drop to 400 lbs. At his height that would be a good weight for him for competing and not sacrifice too much strength.

6'9" and 250 lbs is pretty big.  Not in juiced up bodybuilder world, but for any other type of athlete that's a big dude.  Karl Malone was 6'9" 250 and was considered the most jacked dude in the NBA during his entire career.  I'll bet Thor wouldn't even be his size without gear, as dindus are naturally the largest of all races.

I remember people complaining about this when Pudzianowski was winning WSM all the time.  He was clearly not as "strong" by the classic strongman definition of that term as Savickas and some of the other bigger guys of the time but he was really fast in the more speed-oriented events.

I think Pudz placed 6th in the 2006 Arnold Pro Strongman - the same year he won WSM.

It was said that his sponsor Met-Rx, also the sponsor of WSM, rigged the contests to favour medium height competitors - and speed events too by the sound of things.

I would tend to subscribe to that.

Pudzianowski was never as strong as Mateusz, also from Poland, who placed 2nd at WSM this year.

Dindus are not the largest. You're confusing lower body fat and more definition with size. White guys like Shaw and Thor have a much bigger frame and bone structure than a guy like Malone. Malone also ate well to get to his size and lifted weights etc. But he can't ever be as big as the larger framed white guys. There's a reason WSM has been dominated by white men. Whites have bigger frames and can lift heavier. Blacks run faster.
