honest question, as it's kind of intriguing when you compare them to other minorities who came later and had to overcome the language + cultural barrier.

To answer your question, it's not one thing. It's a bunch of things. But know as a whole on my people worldwide, IT IS A CURSE. Put on us by God himself. Read Deuteronomy 28 for a list of blessings as curses. We didn't do what we were supposed to so we are under curses AS A PEOPLE. Here is your answer directly from the book. 15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
