That story is fishy, nobody would replace potassium without getting baseline labs first. Nevermind the fact that you treat dehydration by replacing fluids, not potassium.
Maybe they used Lacted Ringers solution which does contain some potassium, but at physiological levels: 4mmol of K+/liter. Consider that normal potassium levels are generally considered to be 3.5-5.0mmol/L, large amounts of LR would normalize levels of potassium towards 4mmol/L, right in the "sweet spot".
