Won't unseat the Olympia as the top show in terms of prestige (well as much prestige as a bb show can have), but this might challenge the Arnold Classic as the #2 show.

I bet it will be arranged so that it will not 'outprestiege' the Olympia and that the qualified IFBB pros can enter both.

If this is true ..... the Rock will be prpmoting an IFBB Pro Contest but not taking-over the IFBB.

I assume that  Mr. Manion and Mr. Pecker see an advantage for the IFBB by associating with the Rock.

Another interesting thing is if the WWF will come in on it with him. We know Vince Mcmahon has an interest in bodybuilding, and some of the talent comes from BB/PL/Strongman backgrounds, so a crossover seems natural. But one wonders if Vince might leave it alone because of the rampant drug use, and all of the flack wrestling already gets on that subject.

I have not seen any official announcement on any of this.

But - as for the talk of the Rock Games, this has been discussed for a while, it was slated to come to Anaheim in 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center, a mixture of bodybuilding, powerlifting, and many other events, basically like the Fit Expo is doing in Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, etc...

For the Rock, it would be good to partner up with these guys to build it up more... and with the NPC and IFBB too for their respective contests.

The Rock Games - 15 events including IFBB contest, NPC contest, Powerlifting, Dogeball, Karate and so much more... but where to hold this so it does nt conflict with others, or just partner up...

As for the prize money, no... nothing like toe Olympia or Arnold....

I can help, of course.... as long as I get an autograph and picture :)

Phil, Kai, Rhoden to compete in the same show next year
« Reply #14 on: August 15, 2019, 11:03:23 AM »
this new show sponsored by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (which will supposedly have more prize money than the Mr. O)...we already know from Kai Greene's coach George Farah that Kai plans on doing this show... Rhoden has been training for "the big show" (his words) knowing full well it won't be the Olympia (a contest he is banned from competing in)... Phil, also, is clearly gearing up for a show sometime soon, as he is looking bigger than ever...bodybuilding has a new, more mainstream (thanks to the Rock and his corporate sponsors (including Ford and Under Armour), Superbowl-like event.

. I don't know, our country is becoming more superficial in many ways, and as that happens, the more people begin to objectify the human body, the more likely bodybuilding will garner attention not just from bodybuilders who love the sport but also from the average Jane Smith who is being told to view the human body as an object for her pleasure. It's one reason why Dwayne the Rock Johnson has become as successful aa he has. And he is probably the perfect guy to help make bodybuilding more mainstream for that reason.

BOMZ, I could be totally incorrect here, but the following is what I THINK I recall about IFBB prize money!

Here are some thoughts thinking about this subect.

When the ARNOLD event first came into play, I THINK it was decided by those who make important decisions within the IFBB .....  that the ARNOLD prize money had to be less than the Olympia prize money .... in order to NOT lessen the Oly prestiege which was, and still is to this day, considered to be the ULTIMATE event within IFBB competitions.

Things may have made considerable changes since them good old days, but it would surprise me if The Rock was to enter the IFBB world today and offer a larger award than the Olympia, or even the ARNOLD, as it would appear that the Oly and the ARNOLD would lose some of the event prestiege that the pioneers (such as Weider and a handful of others) have established throughout the years.

On the other hand .... an IFBB association with the ROCK and his plan to enhance he prize money may be a pretty enhancing gift for the IFBB even though some prestiege is lost on befalf of  the Oly and the Arnold.

I don't know how Arnold feels about this new kid on the bodybuilding block
but I'd bet ya a dollar to a doughnut that it was discussed in detail.

As we might know, if a bodybuilding pro decides to only enter one contest each year, it's likely that he will only enter that IFBB event  which offers the biggest award.

If this is true, it will have an adverse effect on the other two.

So it would seem likely that the IFBB will establish some interesting qualifying standards before this ROCK event comes iinto play which will satisfy the OLYMPIA peeps as well as Arnold himself.

More deep thoughts .. but I'm THUNK-OUT!

PS... Good seeing your new lifestyle and training habits!

The Rock's show is still under the auspices of the IFBB, so Rhoden still needs the IFBB to clear him. Kai and Heath should have no problems.

Here is the IFBB Professional League's response to the rumors that was put out there regarding this new contest...

IFBB Professional League President Jim Manion Sets the Record Straight on Olympia Rumors

The bodybuilding rumor mill is always a source of entertainment for the social media crowd. Stories surface everyday giving bloggers plenty to talk about as they attempt to gain clicks and views.  In the last few days rumors started to gain momentum about the IFBB Professional League and its long-standing relationship with Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend.  NPCNEWSONLINE caught up with IFBB Professional League President Jim Manion to set the record straight on some of the stories.

NPCNEWS: Jim, is there any truth to a recent rumor about the IFBB Professional League’s commitment to the Olympia?

MANION: The Olympia will always be the most prestigious and most important event in our sport. It’s the super bowl of bodybuilding and there are no plans to change that.  There is no title that means more than the Olympia and we are always working to expand the Olympia in every way possible.

NPCNEWS: We’ve heard stories speculating about the IFBB Professional League’s relationship with AMI, the company that owns the Olympia. Any truth to those rumors?

MANION: Absolutely no truth whatsoever.  Our relationship with AMI is stronger than its ever been and I’ve been extremely impressed by the way this year’s Olympia plans are coming together. The 2019 Olympia Weekend will be big.  New events, great sponsorships, big prize money, and plans are already in full force for the 2020 Olympia and beyond.

NPCNEWS: But what about stories that another event is in the works that could challenge the Olympia’s status as the #1 event in the world.  Any truth to that?

MANION: Let’s be clear about one thing.  The IFBB Professional League is growing fast and we never stop working to create opportunities for our athletes. We are always working to bring new promoters and more fans into the sport in order to keep up with our growth. The arrival of any new contest has no impact on the Olympia’s status as the world’s premier event.  The Olympia is and will continue to be our most prestigious event and most coveted title.  It’s been that way for 55 years and it will remain that way

Yeah and the NY Giants claimed all the rumors aboht trading OBJ were false, right up until they traded him. 😁 Anyway, even if Manion isn't trying to hide anything, he doesn't have the power to stop this new show from becoming the new Superbowl of BBing. If the top guys compete in it and not the Olympia, then ipso facto its the top show. Maybe the IFBB tries to forbid the show. Well the Rock can just make it a non-IFBB event (and the top guys will still show up if the money and the marketing potential is greater for them there with The Rock, Ford, and Under Armour than it is in the IFBB). Manion has virtually zero leverage. It's a whole new world with social media as the most profitable platform for bodybuilders, no one really needs the IFBB or their sponsors, and if The Rock is able to do what he plans on doing, the IFBB can't stop him. With Kai already committed to the new show, and Phil and Rhoden likely participants too, the transition is already in progress.

BOMZ, I think that you are totally incorrect about Jim Manion's leverage/control, within the IFBB, but it would interesting if you were correct and if Dwayne decided to make it a non-ifbb event.

I believe that JIM, and Jim alone, is in complete and total control and will remain so until he retires ...... unless, for some unknown reason, he  had serious problems with Mr. Pecker who owns the IFBB .

And it is Jim's present intent to maintain the Olympia as the ultimate event within the IFBB family and I am sure that this has been discussed with the Rock in detail ... and that necessary arrangements have been made and agreed to.

I am unaware if any bodybuilding event or sanctioning body will ever offer a million dollar prize, but if that does occur, it will be damn interesing to watch the outcome and see how it affects the present day situation.

I'll end this by simply saying, "Don't under-estimate Jim's power within the IFBB!" ... and the Rock's power as today's top action movie star!
