Woke up about 45 minutes ago.

Showered and brushed my teeth and got dressed.

Ate some cantaloupe and drank a glass of water.

Waiting to leave to head to work at Auto Zone.

Good day ahead.

Change of pace today working indoors on ceiling replacement including velux install to allow light natural light into dark room and chimney breast removal and moving a doorway. Removed ceiling today preserving old coving and ceiling rose, lofts on old houses tend to be filled with soot off the old coal fires and also the old pointing that fell off the original unfelted slate roof and you get a face full of this soot and old mortar every fucking time you pull a bit of the ceiling down, dirty fucking horrible job and went home looking like Vince goodrum after a month in Africa on tanning injections to the missus complaining she’s just spent an hour cleaning bathroom and I was about to destroy it.

Done plenty. Mask up, chum. I like Sundstrom. They do a full helmet version with battery powered fan too but it's $.

Well done keeping the cove and rose intact. Hope your joists are level for the refix. The Jarrah monkeywood here is bowed and twisted 49/50 times.

Sounds like ball breaking work my friend.

It absolutely sucked mate, I love construction work and probably will never leave it but can’t wait till house is paid off and kids are financially independent so can take on less jobs and be more picky if which jobs to take on.

Haha I enjoy your piss take post mate but honestly haven’t a clue what that meant mate?

I snapped the elastic on my mask getting a drink of pop early on in the day so continued without which was a mistake as chest was tight all evening, i find the rubber seal on the half decent one I have uncomfortable and sweaty for longer periods so tend to use the shitty paper disposable ones more. Have allowed in the pricing for levelling the joists as well as installing noggins which they never tended to bother doing in older houses although once out the joists weren’t too bad  considering the are 99 years old and were actually about 6” deep which was a nice surprise.
You are in Australia if I remember right? What’s construction industry like to work in over there? A good friend of my dad is a bricklayer and emigrated there 30 years ago was the beat thing he ever did

Yep been in Aus since 99 after a few years in the UK. The weather is way better, although in Perth I describe the 2 seasons as Too Fuckin Hot and Too Fuckin Cold. Plenty of sun tho.

I've been pretty steady workwise. I'm small potatoes tho and only chase enough to keep myself and an offsider going. 46 and still content on the tools tho. Why would I want to chase around after workers all day when I can just do the work myself? Tried that running a crew nonsense briefly and it wasn't for me.

Fwiw I usually use steel furring on clips to level ceilings unless there's something in the room that won't permit the drop. I hang the laser, find the lowest member, knock off another 5-10mm grace, and work up from the laser line. Faster than planing and spot on level, although it sounds like you've got plenty of meat in those joists to shave back if that's the plan.

Btw you can finish dustless if in an occupied space. A handful of topping in basecoat will permit wet sanding and dragging a broadknife over it to slick it up. Got to put it on pretty, of course. I generally go 30/70 top to base.  Have to use fiberglass tape tho since paper shrinks back as it dries. Fibrefuse is miles better than the old square grid scrim tape. Carry accelerant and you can knock over a patch in no time and paint it straight away. No dust, no drying time, no return trips. $.
