Wasn't Ed Coan's best bench press around 565- or 575-lb?

His weakest lift, yes, but not really weak by any measure.

Coan's best was #584 single ply at #220. I'm pretty sure Mike McDonald still holds the raw record at a hair under that in a full meet.

Realistically, Woolam doesn't need to add much across his total to be a top #3 raw, only #75 - 100 pounds. The bench and squat #'s aren't horrible when looking at the the total package. It's that deadlift that's smoking everybody.

Impressive, but...

Obligatory: He has a shit physique.

I've known a few people who specialized in deadlifts.  For whatever reason, they've all looked like shit.  One of them was strong as hell, repping 600+ pounds with ease at somewhere well over 40 years of age, but he was positively skinny-fat /w 14" arms.  They looked like pipe-cleaners.

Is there a point to putting that much stress on your body, if you don't even look like you work out?  Put a size XL t-shirt on Cailer Woolam, and he'll look downright ordinary.

I don't think that deadlifts are important for bodybuilding.

Knew some guys in prison with 600lb deads and all but 1 looked like they trained. Knew a scrawny kid, like 19-22, who I don't think even weighed 160, maybe 145, who'd pull 505 and win every event we had (whatever weight class he was in at least). None of them had lifted/trained before ever coming to prison, and all were meth addicts and/or pedophiles. Some ppl just have good genes for.deadlifting. probably the movement with the least "technique" involved (compared to bench & squat).

Any advantage to the double overhand grip?

Hook grip, if one can get used to it, feels better for some people and is safer on the biceps. It's mainly just a comfort thing.

The pain is unreal. Especially if you don’t have long(ish) fingers.

That's impressive. There's another guy that recently competed in the World Deadlift Championship. I can't remember his name and will keep looking. Has a really good build, weights under 240 lbs I believe and he lifted over 420 kg I think. Maybe someone else can find his name. He is still young. It is cool to see some lighter jacked guys with huge deadlifts.

Was wondering whether the double overhand grip allows the lifter to engage his trapezius muscles more effectively ,allowing him to "jerk" the bar at the start of the movement and increase the vertical acceleration off the floor.

The sumo deadlift, after all, is a more  straight up and down vertical pulling movement than the conventional deadlift.
