Conversation with an old time friend
« on: October 07, 2019, 01:59:24 PM »
Today (like all Mondays) was leg day a quite a brutal one (not by getbiggers standards of course...).

Anyway, on my way home I met a friend and had a usual chat, then he said: "I don't understand why you keep killing yourself in the gym like this. I know you since more than 20 years and you look always the same".

Well, he probably didn't understand that he made the best possible compliment.
I'm 45 and I'm starting to see friends with health problems or so out of shape they look like the typical old man.

Anyway I just wanted to share (no homo) the "glory" moment of an old natty fart  ;D

You will see a drastic difference when you hit 55.  Guys that work out hard look great while guys that don't look like absolute crap.

The problem with guys is that they are delusional about how they look. A hot chick will say she is a 7. Every single guy thinks they are a 8 or above. They must have circus mirrors in their house. Maybe it's a genetic attribute that makes guys feel like they are worthy of hitting on a chick. LOL. A good example of this is guys who are pure gargoyles that are critical of a hot girl's looks that are not remotely in their league.

I'm not delusional when I say because of working out I'm in better shape concerning strength, power and cardio than most 25 year olds. Yes, I slack from time to time from drinking beer and put on 10lbs of fat but I can take it off quick. Keep hitting it hard and you will have the last laugh. That is unless your friend is looking in the circus mirror.

Bill Maher did a rant last month about how people are now being fit shamed and how fucking fat and lazy our country is. He said we need to bring back fat shaming. I fucking agree as I am sick of feeling guilty about other people's apathy.

Totally agree with you. It's not unusual to see men in their 50's walking with a cane because they're so overweight that their knees are shot.
We're all dirty narcissistics but after a certain age it's more and more about staying healthy and still able to be active and have a full and amusing life. Just my thoughts anyway.

Thanks Coach! I started at 14. Maybe it's also because of this that my joints from time to time are giving me troubles, but a part from a frozen shoulder couple of years ago (sucked big time) I'm all right

Not really.  They consider "training" any kind of exercise at all like walking, washing dishes, doing laundry, etc.  The only people that don't fit that description are bedridden.  The key is just don't get fat, smoke, drink excessively or do rec drugs.  The longer you stay off prescription meds like statins and blood pressure meds the better.  All of the people I've ever known who lived to be over 80, none of them trained hard if they trained at all.  Working in the garden and walking the dog was the extent of their exercise regimen.

For the record, I hate how I look in photographs. The mirror lies, while photos don't. It's a Dorian Gray situation. ;D At 75 years of age, I mostly care about staying healthy. Working out helps me do that.

Even if maybe it's just bro-science every Monday it's squat day.
Just squat for sets of 15-20. Very intense.
Hope this can boost natural test production.

I can condense this down to one sentiment.

People who don't lift weight only ever think about the pain and time you go through in lifting weight.

That's all they seem to notice.

It doesn't help that people who lift weight, they don't really often evangelise what they are doing.  They might complain "oh my legs are sore", but they won't say "Oh, I'm terribly satisfied at my recent efforts at the gym and this has had tremendous trickle-down ramifications for other parts of my life"

It's human nature, we rarely give good reviews.  You're already doing the shit, why bother talking about it.

The problem with that is that the people who are left giving the good reviews are often scientists, who generally, as a rule - are presumed to be thin old men in white coats who have never touched a weight.  IE, people who don't look like they have walked the walk.

Doubt you could find one guy in a hundred who could do 10 pullups anymore. 25+% bf is the norm. And these guys seem to believe they've got it going on, swaggering along in a tank top. Mindblowing.

Yes I do understand what you say but I never talk about lifting weights because "normal" people would never understan anyway.
Also don't you find particularly annoying when cyclically they "discover" a new diet or running or whatever and start talking about it 24/7.
And then as usual after a month or so it's all gone diet, running.... I find it patetic

Yes 40% bf but not their fault... And for us hitting the gym "it's easy for you. You always been in shape. I had lots of problems..... [fill in with whatever]...".
