Wow, nice turn of events for the owner. Imagine all the art that has been given away and sold at market stalls and flea markets, the owners unaware of the potential value of their shit painting.

I have one that sits in my closet. Bought it from an auction house in Vienna. Cheaper than I thought it would be.

Does seem primitive. Would not have guessed its value either ,tbh.

Cimabue's is most famous through his student Giotto, whose art basically inspired most artists of the Italian Renaissance , particularly Michelangelo. So he has the name value.

No, it isn't. And I won't pretend to know jack shit but there's a logic to the progression of styles and you can eavesdrop on the conversation of history when you take a look at what artists and philosophers of the time were doing and saying what they were.

Shit, guess that sounded snooty after all. Doesn't mean you have to agree with them or like it but when you see what they were responding to and the momentum of their time it's like being let in on a secret. What fun!

I was at the World renowned MoMA in NYC. They had a gallery in one room that looked like picture after picture of what can only be described as someone took different color paint cans and threw them at the canvas. I left heading to an elevator and an employee got on with me. I said to my wife that the exhibit was a scam and I could make the same art. He got furious and started telling me off that the pieces were worth more than my house. I call them as I see them. The emperor has no clothes on.
