Wow.  And to think he only started at age 27 [he's 32 now, right?], and apparently emerged from a life of crime and drugs.

One wonders how many grams of cocaine went through his system, yet here he is STILL setting this amazing record.

did i imagine Ted Arcidi benched over 700 in the 80s???

and Jim Williams benched over 700 in the 70s but didn't count
because he had wrist wraps on, which this guy also had.

a couple others benched 700+ in the 80's, with better form than
this guy.

Right. Not even 2x body weight puts this into better perspective.

What was wrong with his form?

barely perceptible pause, and even then he sunk it another inch after which is a dq.  and didn't really lock out.

why didn't the video mention Arcidi?

i respect the dude's strength, but the rules are much more lax than in the past.

I would say a pause need only barely be perceptible, which it was.  The lockout is questionable...his arms are so large, that I can't quite tell if any bend is left in his arms.

Now your middle point - sinking the bar into his chest another inch.  That's generally considered a DQ?  Then I can see why you would consider this lift to be a fail, based on that alone.

I'm reminded of Ed Coan's lifts - he was amazingly good at literally hitting exactly the depth and pause necessary to complete a lift successfully.  There was never a wasted motion with Coan.  But what we see here with Maddox is not quite that refined.  And that sinking of the bar being a DQ would say it all - I had recalled that rule, but didn't know it was a universal DQ.

absolutley and the 705 Arcidi did was super strict, taking nothing away from this latest guy he’s extremely strong alright but that would of been failed years ago mainly because of the “sink” in the chest instead of a direct pause/stop TOUCHING the chest and the lockout was suspect as well

I was just with Ted yesterday (had lunch together, a good friend).
Ted gets criticized still because he was wearing the 1st Marathon bench shirt, which was nothing more than a tight Under-Armor type of thing.
They say "maybe" gave him 5 lbs. on his total. So his doesn't count as Raw.

Ted just got some filming a new episode of "Ray Donovan" which will be coming on this new season.
He also wrapped up a recurring role (5 episodes) on "Defending Jacob", a show that is due to come out in 2020. Playing Chris Evans (Capt'n America) side-kick.

Ted did very well (and is doing well) in his life after Lifting/WWF. (Real estate mogul in this area as well).

"the heaviest bench presser in the world"

I understand open class but over 440lbs body weight is just getting stupid. It's like a fat guy winning an eating contest....well no shit.  :P

Ted is still the lightest person to bench over 700.

Also still holds the raw bench record in full meet. (He just did some token lifts to get on the board, 500 lb. squat and 500 lb. DL).

Ted Arcidi was wearing a bench shirt and Jim Williams wore wraps around his elbows which discredited that lift, not wrist wraps

Lift looked fine to me. A good return after his racking controversy at the last meet.

Re-watching Kiril's record I don't recall his pause being so brief. Surprised it doesn't get more flack. Looking forward to his comeback to take back that record.

Dude is such an inspiration. Love his videos. Play them in between sets when I'm benching.

Meeker is a shirted guy.

These past two decades, the guys have been Mendelson (715), Spoto (722) and Sarychev (738). And now Maddox (739 and 744, respectfully). All four have been/are just shy of 400 pounds bodyweight or over.

In my opinion, Sarychev is, as of now, the greatest bencher of all time, still. Despite Maddox besting his feat by several pounds. Kirill easily had more in reserve, and, also, he uses zero chest compression, where Julius utilizes quite a lot.

If Kirill is willing to again bump up his bodyweight, etc., and can stay healthy during the training, I’m quite certain he’d smash Maddox’s 744 with relative ease.

Maddox is a beast, but Sarychev is a machine.

Right. Not even 2x body weight puts this into better perspective.

Pressing over 700 allows only a singular perspective for the knowledgeable strength athlete: that the SOB is in possession of unfathomable strength.
