Steve Laureus 10 Weeks Out.
« on: January 01, 2020, 06:36:46 PM »
Dave does such a good, natural job interviewing people at expos in particular...but he just doesn't have the voice for this type of narration, lol.  I found I became ok at interviews over time, but I sound so Canadian, it's not even funny.  Product of spending the first 7.5 years of my life in Newfoundland, I think.  We almost sound Irish there.  Extremely strong accent, and I think that's why I sound so Canadian.

I'm surprised that I can pronounce "about" properly, rather than say "aboot".  But anyway, Dave does such a great job with his interview voice, but it comes across as a bit forced here:

How small is Steve's waist? Tiny, it's crazy. Must be sub 30 inches...

It's crazy to think that given the muscularity that he carries, but I would say that is quite possible.

Despite not having the same 'flow' as someone like Bumstead, he has killer proportions. One to watch in Classic for sure.

I remember a time when a guy like this would have been known to everyone who follows bodybuilding.  I think now with so many divisions, status in the industry has kind of been watered down...there are some very good guys who I honestly have never heard of today.  I hate to say that Laureus is one of them, but he is.  I had not heard of him before this video, and he has a very solid physique.

I like the new divisions because a guy like Laureus, who does not carry enough size to compete in the open Mr. Olympia, can still be highly successful in one of the other divisions.

He is basically Brian Buchanan reborn in Classic. Should be dominating if he nails his condition..

Palumbo does have an odd voice. He seems to do a lot of interviews. Hisvoice must not be much of a problem.

Steve's tiny waist is amazing. It really sets off his upper body.

He does such natural interviews - but the "Muscle in the Morning" format sounds a bit...almost faked.  Not labored, but...like unnatural in some way.

Contrast that with his on-the-spot interviews with bodybuilders, where he comes across as very knowledgeable, sincere, confident on camera, and...basically natural.  I tried my best to copy Dave's format for bodybuilder interviews, because I always felt he did a great job with them.  When Muscular Development hired Robbie Durand to replace Dave, I felt that Durand was doing the interviews more as a job then anything else.  I think Durand was replaced next by David Baye, who I think did a good job with natural delivery for his interviews, similar to Dave's natural delivery.

Here's an example of an interview with Dave where he comes across as natural and sincere, as opposed to the canned format that he uses in his Muscle in the Morning program:

boy that is not a natural delivery, hard to watch and listen to

Yeah, lol.  As you said, not a natural delivery.  Which is funny, because Dave does a good job with all the other formats he does.  Just that one...comes across as not natural.

I'm not sure if Dave would notice that, as it's hard to be our own critics.  For me, as I said, I just sound so effing Canadian, LOL.  I wish I didn't, but it's literally impossible to avoid.

^ Man, you can really feel Jason Huh's emotions in that video.  To think that video has a 99.5% Like ratio...that's high, even for well-liked videos on YouTube.  Usually if you pull a 95% to 97% Like ratio, you are doing very well.  But to have 99.5% Likes for ~1,200 total votes is amazing.  Dave did a great job with the interview, and it was a really emotional interview for Jason Huh, after an emotional victory.

I wonder what's up with Jason Huh lately.  I haven't heard from him lately.
