The word you are looking for is don't not doesn't.
I must say that for someone who doesn't think of the future or understand the consequences of my decisions, I've done pretty well so far. My marriage lasted almost 52 years until the passing of my wife. I am college educated, been published many times, financially secure, healthy, have abundant friends and family, retired from a job I held for almost 30 years. I have received many awards and acknowledgements for both my work and my volunteerism. I am the board chair for a successful corporation and have been for the past seven years. We'll see what the future holds.
It's not so much what the future holds, but whether or not we reach for and take hold of it. Once we have done that, the future is in our hands. Then it becomes not a matter of the future is what it is but rather it is what we choose to work to make of it and ourselves.
And yes my old friend, both you and Pellius are in many ways, smarter than me. I am surprised no one commented upon the meme of "Sloth" from "The Goonies".
When the bat crushed my skull and the surgery was completed to put me back together again, my head was swollen albeit to a lesser degree than "Sloth's". I remember being unable to run due to the facial swelling that made a mess of my face which made it uncomfortable to run. But my appearance made me want to run. And hide.
My looks got better with time but as I said I have what I call "witness marks" on me from these incidents. We can choose to be better or bitter. I chose the former. The meaning of all this was contained in the last sentence of my first paragraph.
Be well.
Pellius my brother, you are a good man with a great heart. Hopefully you see these words and know them for their truth. Be well.
