His father seemed like an old-school, proud man. Could have been the type that didn't want to move since it was his house that he worked and paid for. Maybe Howard got them really nice cars over the years.
Probably.  He didn't want to look like he was living off his long haired hippie looking son.

Not sure if you'd consider this selling out, but to me it's the fact that he's turned his back on the comedy and shows that got him to where he is today. It's one thing to expect an almost 70 year old person to have the same edge and humor that they did 30 years ago, but his so called regret for his previous work to the point of whitewashing old shows and even asking that people throw out his old books is to me selling out.

Even Conan O'Brien tried telling him on his podcast that he should knock that attitude off.

People change as they get older. He was pretty rauchy back in the 90s when I listened to him. I have changed a lot in my world view in the last 30 years. Haven't you?

Is it so hard to believe that whatever attitude he has now (I don't listen to him anymore since I don't have satellite radio) is sincere? It's hard to believe that he would compromise his beliefs so he can make more money. He didn't do that when he was just a nobody and that is what got him to where he is today. I think he is second only to Rush Limbaugh as far as the radio game.

Asking people to throw out his old books and presumably not buy them in the first place is hardly an example of someone trying to make more money.

All the money he had by 93 and his parents were still living in that little bungalow?

To be fair to him, Stern did try to get them to move or get live in help, etc..... over the years, they didn't want it. He plays it up about living in bad Roosevelt, LI (original house - http://www.scoutingny.com/the-house-that-created-howard-stern/ ) , but they moved to Rockville Center, LI during his teenage years, which is a good bit more affluent. He doesn't talk about those years much, but that house sold a few years ago for $600,000 and change ( https://www.trulia.com/p/ny/rockville-centre/413-rose-ln-rockville-centre-ny-11570--2010414089?rd=1 ) , which is perfectly in line for being considered middle class in that area.

I can't find it now, but one of the gossip sites had video of his old house he had with his 1st wife, that thing was a compound. It was sold a while ago.

Edit, the early 90's house -

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/29-Pinetree-Ln-Old-Westbury-NY-11568/31146983_zpid/ .

I'm not trying to say he sold out financially, but that he sold out his own integrity. I absolutely have changed even in the past 10 years, and I know I don't find the same things funny that I did when I was 21. But I'm also not embarrassed of what I found funny or my sense of humor back then either. If anything they're now pleasant memories of being a young goof. And that's the problem with him asking people to throw out his old books. I have a problem when people try to whitewash their history, especially when it brought them success. It doesn't mean he still has to throw baloney at a strippers ass today. His show brought a lot of people joy and laughter for many years. He shouldn't be embarrassed or ashamed of that and he especially shouldn't expect his older fans to be either.

So can't give a straight answer.

I haven't listened to him since he went on satellite radio.

By your reply, you imply that he sold out AFTER he left commercial radio. It seems odd that when he is at his richest and most successful point in his career he decides to sell out.

The answers are all there.

What do you want me to do, lead you by the nose? ???

It's not my fault, or problem, that you are ignorant about the man. ::)

No, be specific. All you are saying is that his world view has changed. So what? If you think he changed so he's could make more money you are delusional.

Actually, it's you who has the problem. Here you are resenting that he's a supposed sell out while he's out there living the life as the most successful talk show host ever.

Wow! He was pretty raunchy in his day and many of his "jokes" were in poor taste and even cruel. Now as he's gotten older he regrets this. Many people regret how they were when they were younger. I'm sure our own Tbombz have these regrets. Now, who are you to tell him that he shouldn't have regrets or feel ashamed or embarrassed about this past behavior? Why is admitting regret for past behavior selling out his integrity?

Jesus Christ.

Are you always this dense? ???

Read the article and read the fucking posts.

He's a sellout because he wants to be with the "in-crowd", namely Hollywood celebs.

So now he is trying to disregard everything he's said and done for the last forty years.

God, a monkey could understand this. ::)

It's really breathtaking at how truly stupid you are. It's almost incomprehensible that someone can be so stupid and still be alive today. I would think that someone like you would have drowned himself in a toilet or suffocated by putting a plastic bag over his head just for fun.

Howard Stern trying to be in the "in-crowd". How stupid can you be? Howard Stern, dubbed "The King of all Media" has been the in-crowd for the last 30 years. The biggest stars have and wanted to be on his show and in his "crowd" for decades. Nobody cares about you.

Cry like a little bitch all you want. You seem to very concerned with Stern's life while he doesn't even know you exist. Criticize him all you want and then go back to your relatively poor sad sack life worrying if you will have enough money to retire while Stern has a hot wife and lives like a King.

Stern is a winner in life and you, well you are a nothing. A stupid nothing.

“HE DIDN’T SAY THAT ABOUT ME,” SAID HOWARD STERN WITH A LAUGH. “I STILL DON’T THINK THAT HE SHOULD SAY THAT, YOU KNOW? ESPECIALLY COMING FROM THAT KIND OF MAN, WITH A STATUS LIKE PRIMEMUSCLE. HE’S THE GOAT, AND HE DID A GREAT JOB. OF COURSE, (HE HAS) FREE SPEECH, BUT SOMETIMES YOU GOT TO BE CAREFUL WITH THE WORDS THAT YOU BRING OUT.

DESOLATE COULD HAVE WON THE MR. GETBIG NINE TIMES, INSTEAD OF EIGHT TIMES. SO IT’S A DIFFERENT ERA. IF PRIMESOGGY CAME IN OUR ERA, HE WOULD STEP UP TO OUR GAME. IF THE GUYS, LIKE HE SAYS, DON’T TRAIN HARD ENOUGH, HE WOULDN’T TRAIN HARD ENOUGH. WHY WOULD HE, BECAUSE NOBODY’S TRAINING HARD ENOUGH.

“IT’S HIS OPINION, AND I DON’T AGREE WITH IT,” STERN SAID FIRMLY. “NOT JUST BECAUSE I’M IN THIS ERA. I LOVE BACK IN THE OLD SCHOOL. I LOVE IT. IF YOU WANT TO GO THAT WAY, LOOK AT ALL THOSE GUYS. I always enjoy a good debate and will address arguments with my opinions but once someone starts attacking me personally, calling me dense, ignorant and stupid then the gloves are off. He never addresses the argument just claiming that it's obvious he's right and just starts name calling. That's always a sign that he has nothing. Just a gut feeling and resentful that someone has changed and matured with age and is still wildly
successful.

::)  No he wasn't. First of all, he named himself  king of all media as  a joke and also as a fuck you to michael jackson. But the fact that he wasn't getting guests that matched the popularity of his show was one of the biggest gripes on his show before he moved to satellite. He would occasionally get a big guest back then, but big celebs would do every other new york radio morning show and skip his. And more often than not they would call in instead of  making studio appearances. Compared to every other nyc promo vehicle, he wasn't able to pull name guests. Even he acknowledges that it's different now.

He is best buds with celebs he used to feud with- rosie o'donnell, ellen degeneres, jennifer aniston who he used to call fugly and a butterface all the time. There's no shame in making amends with people, but there's also no getting around the fact that his about face helped his career and social status. He saw the writing on the wall and knew it was beneficial to his career to change. Maybe it's genuine, maybe it's not, but there's no getting around the fact that he performed an about face that benefits his pockets and social status.

Ask Joe Corson of the Stage Deli about Elliot, it took 5 dimes to cover that up. That's gangster talk for 5 big ones! A pox on those luciferian lugaroos at Sirius for banning Elegante from the building.

Offen is one of the greatest things to come out of later day Stern, 100% in real life like he was on the show.

And that's my point. So many here think they can read the hearts and minds of other people. Maybe it's fake maybe it's genuine only he knows and maybe those closest to him which is nobody on this board. But the idea that he did it for more money when he's worth hundreds of millions.

Speaking of which, why did you run away from that other thread about your synthol shoulders and calling me melted plastic or something like that? Still, an anonymous coward that when called out you go into hiding.

No worries.

I can deal with a little putz.

Especially when they are this stupid.

It's really breathtaking at how truly stupid you are. It's almost incomprehensible that someone can be so stupid and still be alive today. I would think that someone like you would have drowned himself in a toilet or suffocated by putting a plastic bag over his head just for fun.

Me?

You're the fucking moron. ::)

You can't even understand the basics of a conversation, you inept douche.

You're "Greta-level" retarded. :P

As usual, you don't know what you are talking about.

He was never "in-crowd" back then, you mental midget.

There were a ton of celebrities who never would go on his show.

He wasn't invited into the elite social circles of the left. He even admitted it.

And he ended up kissing the asses of celebrities he used to rail on. Jennifer Aniston for one. And then the phony went to her wedding. HER WEDDING! ::)

This is your retort?

You don't know me or anything about me.

You're some pansy on an internet message board.

LOL!

You're the one who sounds obsessed. Do you wipe his ass for him too... or do you just use your tongue?

Don't worry about me, my money, or my life.

Worry about the fact that your parents are brother and sister. :-*

Much props.
