Peter McGough is hospitalized battling with cancer

Bed Baths at 4.30am! Oh, the joys of hospital life. Still it could be worse – bed baths at 3.30am in the parking lot listening to Kenny G albums. So here I am hospitalized since Christmas Day morning and facing a lengthy confinement as Anne Byron-McGough and I take on the biggest challenge of my six-year dance with cancer. It will be tough but Anne and I will prevail. And one of the main reasons we will prevail is the support of family and friends we have accrued over the years. And once again thank you one and all for your best wishes these last few days and over the years. Believe me it makes an enormous difference and is an enormous boost to your morale and fighting spirit knowing so many good-hearted people are fervently cheerleading in your corner while that bastard cancer is a solitary presence in his. The hospital’s website has been flooded with messages of direct support. The administrator said, “We’ve never had so many messages of goodwill for one person. Are you somebody?” I replied, “Everybody has to be somebody.” Of course that grand influx of good wishes maybe could best be explained by the majority of them emanating from the email address of one Peter McGough. And this is not a pitch to make me out as special, or a plea for sympathy, because I am only too aware that I am but one of countless millions of individuals and families in the world afflicted by this terrible disease. They all deserve intense support and to be recipients of human kindness. I’ve learnt many things and become a better person during my journey. One major lesson is that good health is an entity to be enjoyed, as with it all things are possible, without it options are reduced. Rejoice in good health and exploit it to its maximum good. Another is that at the end of the day life is but a smorgasbord of memories. Those memories represent the screenplay of your life so make them ones to look back on with warmth and pride and to ultimately cherish. One of my outstanding memories will be the support we have received from all of you during the most difficult time of my life. The ultimate memory is that without my rock I call Anne I would have fewer memories to reflect on. Onward and upward!

That's terrible. What kind of cancer does he have? I remember him from the old Iron Age site. I believe that was Shawn Perrine's connection to be the editor of Muscle and Fitness. Peter was also good friends with Yates. They wrote that book together.

Peter is one of the icon's of our industry in terms of writers, etc.    Former editor of Flex, former group editor of Weider magazines at one time, has incredible knowledge of the history of the sport, and all around good guy.  Him and his wife used to live here in Woodland Hills next to us, before they moved to Florida.  

Cancer is tough, he has fought this battle before. I think he has been in the hospital right before New Years.

Hoping for the best for Peter, a tough disease. Brother died a couple years ago from it, bro-inlaw is fighting stage-4 now.
