Sydney has been engulfed in white smoke for about a month now. Some days you can't see more than a few blocks away....like being in LA in July!

It has been unusually hot the last few weeks and no rain. Just right for bush fires. Or forest fires as we call them in North America.

On January 4 in Penrith, NSW, it hit 48.9 degrees C. That is 120 degrees Fahrenheit! That is the hottest day I have experienced. So the forests here are dry and when the temp is over 100 F things can burn strongly.

There is a lot of concern for Australia in the news but living here things aren't that bad....except for the air. Not great for photography either.

The big cities are safe. It is the suburbs and small towns that are surrounded by forests that are vulnerable.

Every year we get plenty of bush fires. This year fires are more widespread and many have merged to be super infernos. Usually we get plenty of rain in December and January but this year hardly a drop.

The government here hasn't invested in enough equipment such as aircraft to fight these fires. Most years they borrow planes from Canada or the USA. Australia doesn't like spending money!

Stay safe, sir!

No, "soggy."

A drought is a CONDITION. It doesn't "start" anything.
Even the worst droughts need an outside force/source to start a fire, which is the topic of this thread.

Soggy's claim is analogous to saying that guns contribute to murders.
ONLY when they're misused by some asshole.
Otherwise, a gun is an inanimate object incapable of doing anything good or bad on its own.

Learn to read idiot. I never said droughts start brush fires.

Correct, Soggy!
And, I never claimed you did.

Jennifer Anniston said it.
You just agreed with her.

Maybe YOU are the one with reading comprehension issues, Soggy.

Soggy,  I’ll try one more time, so please try to understand. I honestly can’t type it any slower...

I did not claim YOU said droughts start fires.
I claimed that Anniston said it - as your little screenshot shows.
I then claimed you agreed with her statement - as the first line of your reply in your little screenshot shows.

Goodness... this is more painful than trying to talk with howard!

Sorry to cause you so much pain. You are welcome to believe whatever you want about what was posted. Whether you agree with me or not, here is my take:

Who knows what Anniston said. My screenshot shows that Pray_4_War wrote, "Anniston assured me these fires started because of global warming." He was joking because it is unlikely Anniston knows him much less spoke to him.

My little screen shot shows that I wrote, "And she's partly right. Droughts contribute greatly to the incidence of wild fires." I erred in writing that she's partly right, because I have no clue what she did or didn't say about the brush fires in Australia.

Some people think global warming causes droughts. A drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall, leading to a shortage of water. During a drought, vegetation often becomes very dry which make it more flammable. Therefore, droughts contribute to and increased chance of wild fires.

Quote from: Vince B on Today at 03:32:12 AM (who lives in Sydney, Australia) "It has been unusually hot the last few weeks and no rain. Just right for bush fires."  Hot weather plus no rain = drought = increased chance of brush fires.

This is actually a milestone for you, Soggy...

You’ve finally conceded IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS to agreeing/disagreeing with something with which you have “NO CLUE” (in YOUR OWN words).

I'M PROUD OF YOU, KID!!!!

Pathetic. I seldom drink alcohol. So quit trying to paint me as some degenerate drunk. I am sober and quite able to dispatch simpletons like yourself.

Yikes! Some of what you suggested to Vince applies to me. Old age is a bitch!

1. Had the droopy eyelid surgery years ago.
2. So far cataracts aren't a problem.
3. There's no hair on my head left to cut.
4. I've always taken excellent care of my teeth, so my toothy grin is real.
5. Despite the recent photo-shops suggesting otherwise, I don't have man boobs.
6. I maybe have a few ounces of fat that could be converted to muscle, if I would do more cardio.
7. I spent nearly $7,000 on state of the art hearing aids which don't do shit.
8. My grooming habits are fastidious. Although a good wax, could save me the trouble of body grooming for a month or so.
9.  I don't have anymore room for a new wardrobe because I have a problem with buying new clothes and not giving away the old ones.
10. Never had a website and never plan to.
11. So far, so good.
12. I could always use more money. Buying an excessive amount of new clothes isn't my only extravagance.
13. Not sure about the etc. category. I guess that means it is wide open. Maybe I could have penis and scrotal enhancement surgery. LOL.
