Virginia Senate passes three gun control bills

Virginia Democrats took an important step toward passing several gun control bills they have prioritized during this year's General Assembly session.

The majority-Democrat state Senate passed legislation that would restrict monthly gun purchases, expand background checks on firearms, and allow localities to ban guns in certain designated areas.

Senate Bill 69 amends Virginia law to restrict citizens' ability to purchase more than one handgun per month, Senate Bill 70 requires mandatory background checks for all private sales of guns, and Senate Bill 35 requires localities to ban guns at public events.

Although Democratic Sen. John Edwards struck the assembly's most controversial legislation, Senate Bill 16, which would have prohibited the sale, possession, or transfer of an assault rifle, many Republicans believe the House of Delegates will pass the similarly worded House Bill 961, which bans the purchase or possession of assault rifles in Virginia.

“Ladies and gentleman, this is probably the first assault on the Second Amendment, and we’re going to see many after that,” Republican state Sen. Bill Stanley said.

I'm all for extensive background checks, and waiting it out until approved.

The "designated area's" would work, if all criminals also followed the letter of the law.
(Example: No guns in movie theaters, when thugs come in shooting, they're defenseless (The people who follow the laws).

The one per month thing, not really sure what that will fix, the illegals already have mass quantities/stockpiles, and the ill people who shoot up schools, they just need their one.

I'm all for rules that make sense, so far I've seen very few of those... Need to focus on borders where known gun-runners operate, that would be a good place to start.

There are already back ground checks on all firearm purchases. Is there a state where you can walk into a gun store and buy a gun without a back ground check?

You're correct about background checks in gun shops.  However, most states don't do background checks on private sales.  IE, in a Walmart parking lot.  I've bought and sold many firearms this way, and a background check was never completed by either party.  I fully support requiring background checks on private sales.  Make it a felony, if you're caught selling privately, without first performing a background check.

Not sure what state you're in but I'm in Massachusetts and you're allowed 4 private transactions a year and you have to do the transaction via an E-FA-10 https://mircs.chs.state.ma.us/fa10/action/home?app_context=home&app_action=presentTrans so while there is no " background check " it's still being recorded through the state. If I person shows up and has a valid license to carry that in essence is the background check. Because if he doesn't have a valid LTC then the transaction isn't happening. I have no problem with private transactions, the alternative is to do one through a FFL dealer and they charge anywhere between $20-40 to push a few keys on the computer  ::)

I live in NM.

The following states have no background check required on private sales:

AL, AK, AZ, AR, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MA, MS, MO, MT, NV, NH, NM, NC (long guns only), ND, OH, OK, PA (long guns only), SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WV, WI, WY.

Many of these states, you can literally meet a stranger in a parking lot, and buy/sell a gun, no questions asked.  No paper work, no background check.  I have purchased and sold firearms this way.  I always try to get a bill of sale, with both parties information, DL number, phone number, etc.  However, I have run into a few individuals that refuse to do a bill of sale.   Usually, there reason for not wanting a bill of sale is, "I don't want a paper trail, that the govt could use to find my guns."  Crazy world we live in.

Great news SF  , we also need mandatory firearms registration and background check

Keep your weapons at home: Virginia governor plans to ban guns from gun rights rally.

That's the word from Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who announced Wednesday that he plans to declare an emergency and ban firearms around the state Capitol before a gun rights rally Monday that could draw thousands of armed people and militias from Virginia and out of state.

Might be a good idea, rather than fist fights, imagine the gun fight that could break out there. ANTIFA protester's show up with their faces covered, start attacking cowardly with rocks, bottles, batons as usual, then get blasted by 9mm. They are dumb enough to bring ball-bats to a gun-fight, so...

Not the news libturds were hoping for.

"Virginia gun-rights rally concludes peacefully despite earlier fears of extremist violence".

MSM pushes the "earlier fears" on to the mindless lemmings.

Law abiding gun owners don't like the crazed extremists either.
Though libtard MSM and SJW's want you to  believe otherwise and roll everyone up into one group of "gun crazed" people. ::)

Another fail for the brain-dead libs Im afraid...

All of this "gun-control" talk I hear from the left explains PERFECTLY how they intend to disarm law-abiding citizens, but NOT CRIMINALS.

Exactly. Would like to hear their thoughts on this matter.
They want open borders, for more illegal arms, drugs and people to come in and out. (The progressive ones do at least).

Lots of talk, until one of their loved one's gets killed by an illegal person, gun , drug, etc.
