They have been dealing with regular flu for years so they have a rough what's gonna happen and can plan accordingly.

The coronavirus is new and unknown. Even people recovering or having mild symptoms could be having their life expectancy cut by 20 years. We just don't know enough about the severity or potential outcomes of it yet.

 Same here. All it takes is a exercising several times a week, drinking lots of water and washing your hands frequently.

Yes, this helps too. Especially washing your hands after using gym equipment and public transport. Also getting into the habit of not touching your face.

Someparts - you are one of the smarter people here. What I think you need (or zero hedge) needs to clarify is that the number of “total cases” is actually “total actually tested positive cases”. Those who understood viral epidemiology will know there is a huge difference between this number and likely actually cases (possibly by as much as 1000x multiple”).

I've been sticking with the hedge because they update regularly and have not overstated the official numbers. I have seen MANY sources for higher numbers but my time to devote to how reliable those numbers are/or are front-running actual cases is limited. I find it all very interesting and am always tracking financials but a lot of people on here are not exactly well versed on doom-porn. 

ZH was banned from Twitter(I think) last week for reporting on one of the scientists that likely had done extensive testing on this strain. It's odd stuff like that which gets my attention.

Don't fall for pothead, tinfoil hat misinformation. As you said yourself coronavirus is old. Dettol might/might not work on this new strain. Dettol themselves have said they have not had access to the new strain.

Same thing with the whole it's only infecting the Chinese. The virus has likely worked it's  way through the Chinese population and it's causing more issues with certain Chinese mostly because they have shitty long term health, shitty lungs (long term smokers) and can't burn off the virus. A healthy person could have had the virus and very few symptoms and not have even known they had it. There is a reason Chinese kids aren't suffering much from it and that's because their general health is far better.

Most if not all non Chinese/non slanty eyes in China would fall into the healthy category.

The corona virus in bats and in humans isn't exactly the same. There is like a 5% difference.

There is likely another intimidatory animal that it jumped to first before infecting humans. The Chinese are eating all manner of animal flesh kept vile conditions so it's far more likely for shit like this to happen there.

I take Zerohedge with a grain of salt. There’s a lot of end of the world for the financial markets type stuff in there. A number of my colleagues in finance (more those retired and trading on their own) are fans of the site.

But yes the data that you are posting from there does accord closely with the official WHO stats. But again please do note my point about reported cases vs likely actual cases. It’s a big difference.

I remember when Palumboism first hit. We didn't think it would spread, we didn't even have a name for it. We all thought they'd retain the classic lines of your Arnolds, Gasparis, Haneys, etc....,  little did we know it would infect our biggest contests, our after parties, our Jimmy Z muscle worship shows......

Lucky, the schmoe market is strong and resilient. After a few brief hiccups, it bounced back, and seems to gone on a few bull runs over the years.
