Yeah I don't believe a vaccine will be here in 12-18 months either, it will be earlier than that.

Interesting. You think that they had the vaccine already then?

They make a batch of flu shots at the beginning of flu season and by the middle of the season it has to be reformulated....but we have a fix for this?

"A vaccine against coronavirus could be ready as soon as September, the British scientist leading one of the world’s most advanced efforts has said.

Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at Oxford University, told The Times she was “80 per cent confident” that the vaccine being developed by her team would work, with human trials due to begin in the next fortnight."

One could only hope.

I know it's normally 12-18 months, but I just feel with the magnitude of all this, with so many nations involved, that hopefully it will speed things up.

If this virus was a local thing, say only hit China, then the collective effort wouldnt be as big.

That's the kind of stuff these people say when they need funding.

Instead...judge them by their deeds....they never developed a vaccine for SARS the first go around.

Covid-19(aka SARS v2) is mutating as it hits the mass population - I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to a lasting, one shot vaccine.

i was just IP banned from a forum for saying china created the virus when somebody was blaming trump

it's insanity how it has become more acceptable in our country to be anti american rather than blame somebody that isn't white

Hardly anyone got SARS and it didn't spread so there's little reason to fund a vaccine for it.
It affected 5 (!) people in the US (no deaths)

For the Coronavirus...

They've already noted that an effective treatment is to take blood plasma from a person who has recovered but there's no pharma pill $$$ in that.

Still, I fail to see how this is not a moving target. If in 2003 we had SARS and all that time to study it....why no vaccine for that class of virus?

Lack of funding I suppose.

And a vaccine for SARS won't work on Covid19

Yeah, gotta agree. Can't see a there being a vaccine this year and we'll be lucky if we see one in 2021.

A mutating virus favours milder strains so that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The doomsday scenario would be the covid19 virus combining with another virus in an infected host and a new super virus being born

I never said it would.

They are genetically related...so all the research on SARS 1 since 2003 should have yielded a vaccine - if one was possible.

Spanish Flu died out after 2 seasons. There was never a vaccine. This will be seasonal to some extent as well.
