Martins (WSM) Trains w/ O'Hearn
« on: January 23, 2020, 01:34:35 PM »

Mike talks about being "1 injury away from ending your career" then proceeds to almost prolapse his rectum at the 11:00 minute mark.
If you go to YouTube, there are some funny comments about Mike:

He's been out of hand with it for years!  He has looked like a mannequin since at least as far back as 2014!

Ohern always tries to pick a movement that is a bit different (that he has no doubt been working on in the lead up) to try match it with the strongmen who would never perform the movement.

He did this with Hapthor, reverse grip benches were his choice that time.

The guy is a full on weirdo, egomaniac. I can only imagine how unbearable he must be to actually spend anytime with. Imagine how that kid is going to turn out......

Mike is a strange character but you gotta admit that he is incredibly strong especially considering how lean he is year round.

Martins in the current Worlds Strongest Man. He just won the Arnold Santa Monica to qualify for the Arnold Strongman in March where he places 2nd last year.
The other kid is an up and coming Strongman. O'Tren is pretty freaking strong and in great shape, I give him that.

Martins is very good, but Hafthor was hurt last year, I'm thinking Thor will sin it again this year (Arnold and WSM) if Healthy.
(Though never count out Martins, he always seems to pull a rabbit out of his hat and comeback late in many contests to win.

The other kid who's been doing amazing is Mateusz. 23 year old (or maybe 24) and is just a beast, the stone to shoulder is insane, no one can touch him there.
If his deadlift comes up, he'll be ruling the circuit for a while, he already cleaned up on Giants Live tour last year before injury.

Check him out here, most people got maybe one (if that), I forget exact weight, something retarded, like 400+ lbs, maybe closer to 500?? I need to double-check that.

Seems like an incredible lift although it's kinda hard for me to rate it since I've never done anything similar... I'm sure it's ridiculous but when I see a crazy deadlift I can relate more since I know what a heavy deadlift feels like and when I see videos of people lifting like 300lbs more than I ever did it seems even more impressive to me.

He's back training and I believe doing the Arnold. (Though its hard for me to fully know right now his channel is in Polish).
But the title leads me to believe he is:

There a video where he goes against the best in the world, some cant do one rep, so it shows it in at least to relation to the strongest people around.

Here:

You can see Martins get 2 reps, even Thor struggles with his one rep (all he needed, but it looked tough).

Novikov 15:15
Belsak 18:40
Kieliszkowski 21:40
Heinla 25:30
Shivlyakov 27:40
Licis 29:20
Thor 32:35
Award Ceremony 54:00
Entrance Winner 58:30

Olexii Novikov (Ukraine) – 2019 Arnold Pro Strongman South America Champion

Martins Licis (USA) – 2020 Arnold Pro Strongman USA Champion
Matjaz Belsak (Slovenia) – First Place, Season Qualifying Points
Jerry Pritchett (USA) – Second Place, Qualifying Points

I thought he was unable to compete given that his surgery was just a few weeks ago. I just hope he won't fall apart at Arnold. Dude has the potential to be el numero uno. Thoughts and prayers sent.

I'm surprised that anyone beat Mateusz Kieliszkowski at the Arnold South Africa.

His "weak" deadlift is 879-lb on the elephant bar.  ;D

Also, Powerlift66 - you asked if I knew the big fellar Maxime Boudreault.  Yep - I sure do!  He moved to Thunder Bay recently, and is Thunder Bay's Strongest Man!  And given that he just beat 9x Canada's Strongest Man Jean-Francois Caron at the Arnold Pro Santa Monica by two placings, he may well win the 2020 Canada's Strongest Man contest.

I think you said that if he had a deadlift, he could have made it to the Arnold Pro Strongman in Columbus.

I agree with that.  I think he got either 775- or 785-lb for two reps in Santa Monica.  So his one-rep max with the conventional bar is close to 800-lb [I think JF Caron got 800x7 in the recent Spain contest, whereas Max failed with 800.  Maxime's deadlift would be a little higher with the elephant bar - maybe 830-lb or more.  So he's similar to Mateusz, but not quite as strong.  I think Mateusz beats him on all events, and is two years younger.  Both are pretty close, but Mateusz is the freakiest strongman I have ever seen.  Crazy, given that he is 28.  Mateusz is only 26!  I think he's turning 27 this year, and around a year and a half younger than Max.

I worry about Max sometimes, because he is insanely dedicated to a very hard sport.  But at least he is doing well with it now, and will likely be Canada's Strongest Man.

Matt, thanks for that added info. Yup, just checked, Mateusz is 26, will be 27 in AUG. (Thought he was a couple years younger) still an infant in this sport though.
Max looks the type where he may die trying in the sport, where Mateusz just seems to gently move FWD. Max was surprising though, good for him.

JF Caron, also very good, beast of a human... Looking FWD to the circuit of contests this year. WSM is back in FL this year, I may even make the trip out there this year.

Remember, these guys train for log-press (push press), so 400+ plus (for one) is their goal. Gay Rob Kearney holds the American record, everyone still chasing the legend of Big Z.

Men
80kg/175lbs: Matt Leblanc (United States) – 302lbs/137kgs
90kg/200lbs: Tom Hibbert (United Kingdom) – 366lbs/166kgs
105kg/231lbs: Rob Kearney (United States) – 410lbs/186kgs (Has since done 417 lbs).
Open: Žydrunas Savickas (Lithuania) – 502.5lbs/228kgs

I think Max's Canadian record still stands:

Canadian Record
Men
Open: Maxime Boudreault – 432.5lbs/196kgs
