Judo is hugely underrated. As a kid, all of the arts I thought were shit (boxing, judo, wrestling) are awesome and all the arts I thought were awesome (kenpo, aikido, hapkido) are shit.
I found Judo guys unhelpful when it came to newaza. Not all, but most wouldn't offer a single piece of advice in exchange for using me as a grappling dummy. It was like they were afraid of people improving. Maybe it was just the club full of cops I happened to be in.
Jits guys are the opposite. Almost everyone seemed enthusiastic about seeing you improve. I also preferred having someone tap me rather than just hold my face in their armpit for several long minutes like Judo guys are prone to do.
And in my ignorant Uke opinion, the gi is lame, particularly in an Australian summer without air conditioning. Half the battle is against heat exhaustion and the other guy's BO. It's goofy. At least Jits gives you a no gi option.
