My thoughts exactly?  Doesn't raw mean T shirt, shorts and no straps?

That's exact;y what he has.

In an earlier video he talked about Bell's Palsey and how it effected his face.

In all honesty it has faded since i saw the video some time last year or so.

This can also be the end result of a pinched/inflammed Cranial Nerve, which is the upper part of your spinal cord that controls your looks, chewing, coughing, sneezing, eye movements etc

If there is some inflammation pressing on the nerve controlling the muscles of one's face, then this could also be what happened.

Again, whichever it is, it is getting better

What's his life expectancy? ???

Glad you asked that, affeman.  Even though it's sad.

As you probably suspected, I fear for Hafthor's health.  Nice guy - I like him a lot.  And to be fair, he is pretty young still [he's turning 32 later this year].  But...being well over 400-lb with all that juice coursing through one's system...just doesn't bode well for longevity.

That's why following bodybuilding and the physique and strength world is a bit sad for me...I do worry some of these guys will die young - very young.

If I recall correctly, in this video the male journalist seemed to be pretty jealous of Eddie Hall, lol.  But Eddie then sort of agreed with him, that strongman has taken years off his life.  I think he even said DECADES...wow.  Is Eddie ok dying at 55 in stead of 85, just to be World's Strongest Man?  And now that he has the title, also turning 32 this year, will he slim down and retire?

He has NOTHING left to prove.  He has already deadlifted 1100-lb, and curled a frying pan.  ;D

Heck of a deadlift, but Strongman is falling into the same odd place a lot of powerlifting did with multiple records for various lifts.

This should be titled "Unofficial Arnold Strongman Raw Deadlift Record on Rogue Elephant Deadlift Bar". Benny Magnusson still owns the Powerlifting record. Eddie Hall, the suited Strongman deadlift with a standard deadlift bar.

Im guessing he'll win that again this year at the Arnold, I think they did it night before the ASC and offered separate prize money to the winner. (Thor).
Its fine that its a "Strongman E-Bar Deadlift", Powerlifting has its own (and was once considered "odd" as well). The odd lifts. While Eddie also has his Strongman Deadlift title (not on E-Bar).

The USAWA has hundreds of lifts that goes back to the Saxon Bros days.
Nothing strange about about lifts like that, that are added. 'specially when not many can even come close to him...

Benny Mag is looking fit these days, hoping for his return to break his own record...

-----

The world record RAW deadlift (no deadlifting suits, straps or hitching) is 1,015 lb (460 kg), held by Benedikt Magnússon.

Eddie is the king at deadlift though. While Benni is a great deadlifter he competed head to head with Eddie for the 500kg lift in 2016 and lifted it a few inches of the ground. Eddie completely demolished him in that competition and Benni acknowledged that Eddie was the king.

Jerry Pritchett is another great deadlifter. He had no problems lifting 465 kg and did it almost as comfortably as Eddie in 2016. But he sustained an injury when he tried to go for 500 kg and never really equaled 465 kg since. It seemed like he would make it to 501 kg first after Eddie retired.

That being said Thor is looking strong as hell at the moment. There is a chance he very well might lift 501 kg in Columbus! Don't want to jinx him though so let's just see what happens.

Yes he knows he has nothing left to prove. Even if Thor lifts 501 kg I doubt Eddie will come out of retirement to take it again. He knows what it took the first time around.
All that matters is he was the first to lift 500 kg. What is the name of the second guy to run the mile under 4 minutes after Roger Bannister? Nobody knows!

HAHAHA, wow!  Good question there!  And you are absolutely correct, haha.  We know that Andy Bolton was first to 1,000, and now we know that Eddie Hall is the first to 1,100.  Since we most likely will NOT see 1,200...you are most likely absolutely correct in saying that everyone will remember Eddie.

Given how intense the lift was, I was surprised that Eddie spoke positively about hitting 510-kg next time.  There is no need for this!  Lol!!  I don't think he was close to dying the first time around, but that MUST be taxing on the central nervous system.  I think Eddie knows that...but he still has some hunger in him that needs to be satiated.

For the sake of his health [and family] I hope that he doesn't attempt it though.

I just realized that Eddie Hall's fellow Englishman Roger Bannister recently passed away [2018]!  I didn't know that:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Bannister

It is somewhat confusing to follow all the different lifts in powerlifting/strongman these days...it's nice to know that Julius Maddox is simply going for a 750- to 800-lb RAW bench press.  Just...raw.  Not shirt-benching, not benching with a 72-hour weigh-in.  Not shirt-benching WITH a 72-hour weigh-in [I think Matt Kroczaleski's records, impressive as they are, are in the equipped 220-lb class under such a weigh-in schedule].

Just...RAW.  That's it.

I think strongman should just drop the standard bar now.  Just make it - chalk and belt as per usual powerlifting [but using ANY straps you want, even the ones that reduce the range of motion] + suited up with any suit you want, using the elephant bar, and with as much hitching as you want.

Just do that, and leave it alone!  Let there be raw powerlifting, suited powerlifting, and the strongman deadlifting with every cheat possible using the elephant bar.

Add to much to that, and things just get confusing, as BB mentioned.

Obvious Gimmick

In strongman, straps and hitching are allowed. He'll probably win the Arnold, but Martins is super confident right now. So you never know.

Powerlifting went bonkers with the number of Org's.
But, people know who the real few are (IPF, etc) many of the rest are just back-yard leagues.

Martins has been coming on strong for sure. WW beought him to my attention a couple of years ago. His first training videos were bland and boring but his personality has really been coming through.

If you want to get conspiratorial, Bell's palsy is a rare side effect of IGF-1, and I think GH though I may be mistaken there. But stuff like Increlex has that listed as a side. Not that that is a common strongman drug, but you never know.
