Sanders: 'Democratic' Control Freak
Townhall.com ^ | February 25, 2020 | Bill Murchson
Posted on 2/25/2020, 8:09:28 AM by Kaslin

President Sanders, speaking from the White House yesterday, proposed/criticized/blamed ... "

Um, er, no -- not really. It's not going to happen. This Bernie thing -- the rise of Bernie, the magnetism of Bernie, the radiance that shines from his curly white locks -- is more overrated than a luxury vacation package to Wuhan.

Basically, that's because Sen. Bernie Sanders is a socialist. Oh, we've known that for decades -- so long, indeed, that we take for granted his commitment to government direction of whatever moves.

A socialist? Sure. But what does that mean, apart from the way it describes the senator's economic policies: "Medicare for All," free college, higher taxes for the rich, etc.? It is one thing to itemize and debunk particular socialist policy goals. It's equally to the point to note the common denominator of socialist policy.

I would describe it thus: The average socialist thinks he's smarter than you. You can disagree all you want. He's right; you're wrong -- and primed to enforce the distinction.

This overriding conviction derives from the socialist manner of doing politics and economics. We're right -- we the socialists. Our analysis lies beyond question, and because of that, you're going to do what we tell you to do. Your objections to socialist economic analysis -- to socialist scorn for different ways of thinking about the world and the human nature it harbors -- aren't worth the snap of a finger. Shut up! Got that? If not, you don't get socialism.

The socialist passion is to take life and remake it along new lines preidentified by, who else, socialists. The socialist has a plan for everything -- health care, energy, taxation, education, the appropriate use of public resources. The plan is more than just "a" plan. It is "the" plan, like it or lump it.

We smell, overpoweringly, the socialist instinct in Sanders' embrace of "Medicare for All." For all means all. Bernie didn't care in Nevada whether the culinary workers union favored retention of health care benefits won already by the union (some members did; some didn't). Only collective ideas have a place in socialist paradises. There isn't room for individual notions or allegiances. The socialist always knows what others should do. What they should do is whatever he's decided they should do. Obediently.

The American gift for dis-obedience in the political realm is what must, in the end, keep us safe from the "comrades" and "citizens" who, age after age, disfigure life. Socialism, at bottom, is un-American, a word much in need of resurrection, for explanatory purposes if no other.

Why, in the end, were the slaves freed? Because slavery ran counter to the American creed of liberty to make choices consistent with broadly based moral/theological understandings. Telling Americans what to do, and how to do it, is no winning idea around here. Small wonder socialists rarely get to first base, electorally speaking.

But hold on. Bernie's calling himself a "democratic" socialist. Isn't that a horse of a less noisy, more American color? It might be, save that you don't get socialism without the man at the top telling you where to go on and off. That's how it works. Your democratic right to choose goes into reverse gear. Somebody else's choices override your own.

Capitalism's glory is the irregular blending of ideas -- many fruitful, some ingenious, some naive, a few brilliant -- in the mix called the free market. Of which all are invited to sample, to which the socialists object splenetically. They don't care what you want. They know what you ought to want.

To date, a national media not unsympathetic to the idea of government coercion hasn't really brought such points to the fore. I have a feeling we may count on President Donald Trump and the Republicans to perform that necessary work. They should hurry. The legend of good ol' Uncle Bernie, he of the jabbing finger and never-say-die spirit, has grown large. He needs to be shown up for the control freak he is -- the very model of a political type who always knows better than you -- unless you were, unaccountably, with him from the start.

Sanders Doubles Down on Defending Castro, Praises China for Lifting ‘People Out of Extreme Poverty’
National Review ^ | February 25, 2020 | Zachary Evans
Posted on 2/25/2020, 9:07:51 AM by karpov

Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) on Monday doubled down on his praise of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and added praise for aspects of the Chinese authoritarian regime.

“Truth is truth. All right?” Sanders said at a CNN town hall event when challenged on his previous praise for Castro’s regime. “If you want to disagree with me, if somebody wants to say that—and by the way, all of the Congress people you mentioned just so happen to be supporting other candidates…but you know, the truth is the truth. And that is what happened on the first years of the Castro regime.”

Sanders then expanded his comments on Cuba to include praise of China.

“China is an authoritarian country, becoming more and more authoritarian,” Sanders said. “But can anyone deny, the facts are clear, that they have taken more people out of extreme poverty than any country in history?”

In an interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes aired Sunday, Sanders highlighted Cuba’s “literacy program” as an example of good done by Fidel Castro.

“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know?” Sanders said. “When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?”

The Vermont senator’s comments have drawn bipartisan criticism, particularly among Florida lawmakers. Florida has one of the largest populations of Cuban immigrants in the U.S., many of whom fled the oppressive Castro regime.

The Moral Failing of Bernie Sanders: Sanders was not a liberal during the Cold War. He was an outright Communist sympathizer.
National Review ^ | February 26, 2020 | Mona Charen

According to CNN, Bernie Sanders “has been consistent for 40 years.” Some find this reassuring. Bernie is not a finger-in-the-wind politician who tacks this way or that depending upon what’s popular. On the other hand, if someone has never changed his mind throughout 78 years of life, it suggests ideological rigidity and imperviousness to evidence, not high principle.

Why make a fuss about Bernie’s past praise of Communist dictatorships? After all, the Cold War ended three decades ago, and a would-be President Sanders cannot exactly surrender to the Soviet Union.

It’s a moral issue. Sanders was not a liberal during the Cold War, i.e. someone who favored arms control, peace talks, and opposed support for anti-Communist movements. He was an outright Communist sympathizer, meaning he was always willing to overlook or excuse the crimes of regimes like Cuba and Nicaragua; always ready to suggest that only American hostility forced them to, among other things, arrest their opposition, expel priests, and dispense with elections.

Good ol’ consistent Bernie reprised one of the greatest hits of the pro-Castro Left last week on 60 Minutes. When Anderson Cooper pressed the senator by noting that Castro imprisoned a lot of dissidents, Sanders said he condemned such things. But even that grudging acknowledgment rankled the old socialist, who then rushed to add, “When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing?”

Actually, the first thing Castro did upon seizing power (note Sanders’s whitewashing term “came into office”) was to march 600 of Fulgencio Batista’s supporters into two of the island’s largest prisons, La Cabana and Santa Clara. Over the next five months, after rigged trials, they were shot. Some “trials” amounted to public spectacles.

Not sure he'll live long enough to make November.

It’s idiotic to believe Castro was good for the Cuban people or that socialism would be good for the U.S
American Thinker ^ | 02/26/2020 | Jack Hellner
Posted on 2/26/2020, 10:48:3

We’re supposed to believe that it is a wonderful thing in Communist countries where the leaders care so much for their people. They teach them to read. They have free education and health care. Cubans have very strict gun control. Abortion is available on demand in Cuba, and in 2019 they raised the mandatory minimum wage. All things the Democrats running for President support. It looks like an ideal Democrat platform.

After 60 years of Castro Brothers control, they have raised the minimum wage to $16 (per month, not per hour). The average wage will shoot up from $24 to $42 per month. Thank goodness Cuba doesn't have the problem with wealth and income inequality that the United States does because that would cause division and strife.

Higher education professors will now receive $56 to $68 per month, very similar to the fake Indian running for President, who wants to move towards socialism, who is worth millions and got paid $400,000 for the tough task of teaching one course. I wonder why the cost of education is so high in the U.S and why student debt is so high when Warren only got $400,000 plus benefits for such a tough schedule.

The Cuban journalists pushing government propaganda will go from an average salary of $15.50 per month to $50 per month, which is very competitive with the millions that our talking heads receive as they push the Democrat talking points. Actually, I am having trouble justifying $50 per month for Maddow, Joe & Mika, Acosta and Tapper. A copier and leaflets would be a much cheaper way to push the Democrat talking points.

Bernie Sanders has nothing but excuses for communist tyrants
by Washington Examiner

February 26, 2020 12:01 AM

Democratic presidential front-runner Bernie Sanders used the final debate before Super Tuesday as an opportunity to defend his praise for the achievements of tyrannical communist governments. He defended the principle that it was important "when dictatorships, whether it is the Chinese or the Cubans, do something good to acknowledge that."

At one point, he said, “Cuba made progress on education,” and a part of the crowd booed. An angry Sanders responded, "Really? Really?"

Sanders, a proud socialist, has actually made a long career of talking up the silver linings of socialist regimes that he even admits are brutal, “authoritarian,” dictatorial, and otherwise undesirable. In doing so, he is just repeating those brutal authoritarian regimes’ excuses for their own brutality and authoritarianism. Benito Mussolini famously claimed to have made Italian trains run on time. Whether it was true or not, would he have deserved a pat on the back for doing what was expedient?

Back in 1989, Sanders described a trip to Cuba in glowing terms for his local newspaper. “I did not see a hungry child,” he said. “I did not see any homeless people. Cuba today not only has free healthcare but very high-quality healthcare. ... The people we met had an almost religious affection [for Castro].”

We hate to have to explain this, senator, but, when you visit unfree countries, their despotic regimes don’t generally expose you to a representative sample of the population. You're not going to see the starving children whose parents were shot as enemies of the people. You will likely encounter only fanatical supporters who are thriving due to their collaboration with the oppressor. And, while you’re busy touring unusually nice-looking medical facilities reserved for foreigners’ edification, the regime’s opponents are probably languishing in a prison that will not be on your tour, most likely starving and without any medical care.

That Sanders didn’t understand this is a sign of either disqualifying naivete or else outright complicity in evil. With that interview, as with many others, he was handing Castro a propaganda victory, parroting the brutal dictator’s visual propaganda in verbal form.

In a 1985 interview, Sanders sang a similar tune, much the same tune as he does today. Castro was “certainly not” perfect, he acknowledged, but people expecting his overthrow by Cubans “forgot that he educated their kids, gave them healthcare, totally transformed their society.”

Again, this merely makes excuses for Castro’s brutality. Sanders spoke as if the average Cuban is too satisfied and grateful to resist communist dictatorship. It couldn't be that they fear swift, certain retaliation by a lawless, murderous state. It couldn't be that so many of Castro's most capable opponents, many of whom contributed much more than Castro to the overthrow of the Batista dictatorship, were either murdered or forced to flee for their lives when Castro seized power.

When Sanders praises literacy programs under Castro, remember that Cuba's literacy was already as high as 75% when he seized power and began shooting his political enemies. Even setting all that aside, Sanders is actually just praising cynical communist efforts to make sure citizens can be indoctrinated more efficiently using the written word. Castro never wanted a genuinely educated populace. Why else would he have blocked internet access for Cubans? And why does Cuba’s regime even today continue to censor the internet and monitor citizens’ online behavior, lest they start getting ideas for themselves?

Sanders's error was even greater when he recently praised China’s communist regime for lifting a billion people out of poverty. He should know better, given that, unlike most Chinese, he lives in a free country, has access to the internet, and can look up facts.

China’s communists were the cause of their nation’s poverty. They created a great famine. Later, they sentenced an entire generation of academics, doctors, thinkers, and innovators to a life of farm labor and "reeducation." As a direct consequence, their country is a backwater compared to what it could have been. Chinese populations that entered modernity without the Chinese Communist Party — those in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, for example — did far better economically despite starting off with far less than mainland China in terms of human and natural resources.

Even as he praises despots for their professed accomplishments, Sanders claims to support something different. “Democratic socialism,” he calls it. But what good is that adjective if it just means spreading the tyrants' lies and propaganda to fool audiences in free, democratic countries?

Besides, how many two-bit communist dictatorships didn’t claim to be “democratic” or have language such as “people’s democratic republic” in their names? It turns out that merely slapping the word “democratic” in front of the word “socialism” doesn’t make it so.

Bernie Sanders Boards the Wrong Private Jet, Campaign Brain Fart
TMZ ^ | 02/29/20 | ??
Posted on 2/29/2020, 5:01:47 PM by blueyon

Bernie Sanders is on the go all the time -- which seems to have given him a momentary case of a campaign brain fart as he accidentally boarded the wrong jet.

The Democratic front-runner was spotted Saturday making his way off of a private Gulfstream between campaign stops in South Carolina and Massachusetts -- the latter being where he held a rally at Boston Common ahead of Super Tuesday.

Fact is ... the S.C. primary looks like it's gonna go to Joe Biden, as he's well ahead of everyone else in the latest polls. Looks like Bernie's cutting his losses and moving on.

As for this little mix-up here, it's kinda funny. Bernie's been flying all over the country for different campaign events -- so the guy's definitely busy and has a preoccupied mind at the moment. Mistakes like this (getting on the wrong Gulfstream) are bound to happen.

More New York Jews Would Vote Trump Than Bernie Sanders
FRONTPAGE ^ | 3/2/20 | Daniel
Posted on 3/2/2020

More New York Jews Would Vote Trump Than Bernie Sanders It’s about Israel. But not just about Israel.

Mon Mar 2, 2020 Daniel Greenfield 33

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

Donald J. Trump and Bernie Sanders have one thing in common. They both came out of New York.

But where Trump stayed and built up the city, Bernie absconded to Vermont. And after fifty years in the wilderness, there’s still the accent and the grumbling about the Brooklyn Dodgers to remind you of where he came from. But the Jews of Brooklyn and the other four boroughs don’t want Bernie back.

The latest Siena College poll shows that President Trump has a higher approval rating among New York’s Jews than Senator Sanders.

50% of Jewish people in New York rate Trump positively. Meanwhile 61% rate Sanders negatively.

Only 6% of Jews would vote for Bernie Sanders on Super Tuesday.

And more Jews would vote for Trump over Sanders on Election Day.

Jewish support for Trump is striking in a state where his overall unfavorable rating is 61% negative to 36% positive. At 50%, Jews rate Trump more highly than white people in general (42%), and upstate residents (39%). The White House has worked hard to connect with more traditional and religious Jews in Brooklyn. They were the ones who stayed when Bernie and his peers left. And it shows.

Some would be tempted to dismiss a single poll, but a previous Siena poll in the fall of last year showed that only 4% of Jews in New York supported Sanders. Since then he’s gained a whole 2%.

New York’s Jewish population of approximately 1.75 million represents somewhat less than a quarter of the national Jewish population. So how do these numbers translate to Jews nationwide?

Pew’s national poll found only 11% of Jews backing Bernie. A Morning Consult poll showed the same number.

That’s probably not a coincidence.

And a Forward survey found that, compared to other candidates, Jews formed the smallest part of Bernie’s donor base.

Why don’t Jews like Bernie?

There’s Israel. Sure. The socialist had called for ending arms sales to Israel before the Yom Kippur War. That would have probably led to the destruction of Israel and the deaths of millions of Jews. He’s championed Hamas as the victims of an Israeli blockade of Gaza while spreading falsehoods about Israel’s efforts to defend its people against Islamic terrorism. And he’s refused to apologize for the lies.

There’s still no apology for Bernie’s blood libel about Israel killing 10,000 “innocent people” in Gaza.

And Bernie has never met a leftist anti-Semite he didn’t immediately endorse. From Jesse ‘Hymietown’ Jackson to Al Sharpton to Keith Ellison to Ilhan Omar, he’s always stood with anti-Semites against Jews.

It’s not just hatred of Israel. The rhetoric of the Bernie camp often spills over into overt anti-Semitism.

Belen Sisa, Bernie’s deputy press secretary, claimed that, “The American government and American Jewish community has a dual allegiance to the state of Israel."

Imam Omar Suleiman, who spoke at a Bernie rally in Texas, had posted that, “Zionists are the enemies of God” and tweeted, while Israel was fighting Hamas, “A third intifada is near insha'Allah. #FreePalestine.”

But it’s not just Israel and anti-Semitism.

New York City’s Jewish communities are more religious and conservative than the rest of the country.

An entire generation of Bernies left behind Brooklyn for academia. They settled in leafy suburbs and smaller cities, and set off to save the world. Meanwhile the Jews who were left behind had to deal with a broken city overrun by criminals and mismanaged by progressives obsessed with social justice.

Two years ago, Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a bill to end bail. New York actually did. The disastrous criminal justice reform proposal led to a spike in crime and anti-Semitic attacks.

In the same Siena poll, 53% of Jews said that so-called “cashless bail” was bad for New York.

Bernie Sanders wants open borders and an end to immigration enforcement. 54% of Jews in New York oppose handing out driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

It’s not just that Bernie is bad on Israel and anti-Semitism. Jews don’t like a lot of his other policies.

Bernie’s problems with Jewish voters are symptoms of a larger problem for Democrats.

Bernie Sanders scores best with young voters. But the American Jewish community, even more than the general white population, has been growing older. Only around 10% of American Jews are 18 to 24. A quarter are over 65. These demographics are structurally unfavorable to radicals like Bernie Sanders.

Sanders, Warren, and their allies have fastened on to the tiny anti-Israel demographic represented by the hate group If Not Now as representative of the “youth”. They aren’t. Of course. But there isn’t much youth to go around in a community that, like other white groups, is aging and increasingly irreligious.

Unaffiliated millennials are more challenging to organize around a religious identity that they lack and the growing number of Orthodox Jews tend to be politically conservative. If Not Now represents an attempt to organize a narrow group around an anti-Israel identity. As marginal as they may be.

Democrats have a choice between pursuing the votes of a large slab of older liberal pro-Israel voters, a micro slice of young anti-Israel voters, or a growing number of young conservative Jewish voters.

The Sanders campaign decided to stay with its brand and target the tiny number of anti-Israel voters. Some have blamed it for alienating older pro-Israel liberal voters and the younger social conservative Jewish voters, but it had no shot at the latter, and its prospects with the older generation were slim.

That’s why the Siena polls show Bernie doing so badly in New York.

This isn’t just bad news for Bernie. The shifting political demographics of the Democrats and of the Jewish community makes them two trains slowly passing in the night. The only reliable Jewish Democrat demographic is moderate and aging while the Democrats are trending leftward and seeking young voters. Jewish millennials are being separated out into two large groups of the unaffiliateds, who can’t be courted on Jewish terms, and the socially conservative who don’t fit into the Democrat Party. And a tiny slice of anti-Israel millennials subsidized by Soros, and other aged donors who are the past.

Israel and the growing anti-Semitism on the Left are flashpoints. But not the only flashpoints.

Unaffiliated Jewish millennials are moving back to the urban areas that their parents and grandparents, like Bernie, abandoned for suburban communities, and smaller cities and towns. Meanwhile the burgeoning Orthodox Jewish population is exiting the overpriced and troubled urban areas for the suburbs. The two populations are passing each other on the way out in Brooklyn, where Chassidim and hipsters differ not only on bike lanes and school vouchers, but on support for President Trump.

The classic culture clash between the city and the suburbs is being revisited among Jews.

President Trump and Senator Sanders are on the opposite sides of that clash between safe streets and social justice, small business and excessive regulation, and community values and civic gatekeeping.

The liberal Jews of generations past often, at times unwillingly, subjugated their own interests, personal and communal, to the civic liberalism that destroyed the cities because it was their only value system. But a new traditional Jewish population that is departing the cities is immune to the guilt complexes of liberalism. Accusations of racism and planetary destruction are meaningless noise to religious people who believe in G-d and the Bible, and are free to want parking spaces, instead of bike lanes, plastic bags, property values, low taxes, limited regulations, and safe streets, without feeling the least bit of guilt.

There are still plenty of liberal Jews around. But Bernie has the least ability to push their guilt buttons.

The lack of Jewish support is starkest with Bernie because of his overt hostility to Israel, his lack of any connection to the Jewish community, and paradoxically, his Jewish ancestry. Liberal Jewish voting habits are the product of minority insecurities more than anything else. It’s easier for liberal Jews to turn their backs on Bernie than on Carter or Obama, without fearing they’ll be accused of betraying the majority.

Liberal Jews of generations past feared being seen as selfish outsiders. Their pathological altruism began as a defense mechanism and ended up as the only value system of a people who had lost their soul.

The easiest anti-Israel leftist for liberal Jews to vote against is one who came out of their community.

That’s bad news for Bernie, who rejected all Jewish communal attachments and values, only to be discriminated against for the vestigial cultural signals of an ancient Jewish Brooklynite past by Jews.

Trump has as much in common culturally with many New York Jews as Bernie does. If there’s any Republican they would be comfortable voting for on a national ticket, it would be Trump. It’s once again about Israel, but not just about Israel. Bernie’s Brooklyn accent and Trump’s Queens accent, their prickly attitudes and certitudes, are the mark of born New Yorkers. But very different kinds of New Yorkers.

Bernie left the city only to return at the head of an army of obnoxious hipsters. Trump stayed, built it up, and tried to make it safe for the people living there. Bernie is coming back. Trump never left.

And among communities who never left, that counts for a lot.

BREAKING: Bernie's Not Going Anywhere: 'Joe, I Will See You at the Next Debate'
PJ Media ^ | March 11, 2020 | Matt Margolis
Posted on 3/11/2020, 1:53:31 PM by jazusamo

Following another round of devastating primary losses on Tuesday, Bernie Sanders delivered a statement to the media from Burlington, Vermont. The one-time frontrunner was facing calls to drop out, with some are already declaring the race over. But Sanders made it clear that he's not going anywhere, saying he looks forward to debating Joe Biden on Sunday, and telling the former vice president directly that he has questions he expects him to answer during that debate.

Sanders began his speech with an anti-Trump tirade. “Tragically, we have a president today who is a pathological liar, and who is running a corrupt administration. he clearly does not understand the constitution of the united states, and thinks that he is a president who is above the law,” he said. “In my view, he is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe and a religious bigot, and he must be defeated, and I will do everything in my power to make that happen.”

After getting all those adjectives out of the way, he finally acknowledged, "Last night, obviously was not a good night for our campaign from a delegate point of view." Sanders noted that despite his deficit of votes and delegates, "we are strongly winning in two enormously important areas which will determine the future of our country." He cited exit polls that show Democrat voters support his "progressive agenda," including raising the minimum wage, tuition-free college, and Medicare for all. He also noted that his campaign has the support of younger voters.

Opinion: Bernie Sanders is wrong on democratic socialism in Sweden, and everywhere else
NBC "News" ^ | March 15, 2020 | By Daniel Schatz
Posted on 3/15/2020, 7:47:36 AM by Oldeconomybuyer

Bernie Sanders has placed ”democratic socialism” at the center of his presidential campaign and his vision for a better America. For proof, he points to Scandinavian countries like Sweden.

Sanders’ argument takes as its starting point the perception that the Scandinavian “third-way” economic model of democratic socialism - combining the wealth creation of capitalism with the safety net of socialism - works well, and that the U.S. could reach the same socioeconomic outcomes and prosperity by expanding the role of government.

But as a Scandinavian political scientist who has studied Nordic politics, economy and history in depth, I do not feel the Bern. The Vermont senator has embraced an urban legend; his love affair with Scandinavian socialism gets it all wrong.

Contrary to the prevailing narrative, the success of Nordic countries like Sweden - as measured by relatively high living standards accompanied by low poverty, with government-funded education through university, universal health coverage, generous parental-leave policies and long life spans - precedes the contemporary welfare state.

In fact, when we examine Nordic politics, economy and history as exemplified by Sweden, we find that the Northern European success story was not achieved thanks to a welfare model funded by high taxes, but perhaps despite it. It is high time Sanders stops misleading his followers on this score.

Rather than persistently suggesting that the American Dream can be realized by expanding government or raising taxes, it is time for Sanders and his comrades to go back to school and study history. The true lesson to be learned from the Scandinavian experience is that the Nordic-style welfare-state models haven’t worked nearly as well as American democratic socialists like to pretend.

Hold that thought.. what Italy has that we haven't is testing. Now that we are "starting" to get testing don't be surprised if our country doesn't have similar issues, even with our stellar healthcare.
