The reason why Italy has so many Covid-19 cases (>17000)
« on: March 14, 2020, 06:39:44 PM »
Because their healthcare system actually tests for the disease. ::)

Just read that the Covid-19 test costs $3000 out of the pocket in the U.S.. That will make it impossible to compare rates with European countries.

Getbiggers will probably celebrate the low number of confirmed cases. ;D

My insurance covered it.Pretty sure they said on the news recently that all tests and treatment will be covered.

US has been covering for free more or less the last few days. The insurance companies sort of got shamed into it, and were probably scared of government intervention.

The biggest problems so far have been 1) Getting hands on the tests, 2) Speed of testing ( average time from test to result was3 days a few weeks ago vs 24 hours now ), 3) Getting the sick to actually go get tested.

Another problem is that you can test negative one day and positive the next despite having all the symptoms of the virus.

I think it’s a little over $1500.

Here in Oz my wife has been to the medical centre 2 times. Symptoms the same as corona.

First diagnosis was bronchitis.

2nd diagnosis is maybe it's whooping cough.  They have taken a test for this with results next week.

They will only test for corona if the whooping cough result is negative.

I guess ultimately the 'diagnosed' number doesnt matter. It'll be everywhere already.

If they are doing millions of tests the cost "should" go down drastically.

Similar in Germany. My wife was sent home from work 3 days ago with fever/chills, sore throat, bad headache and muscle pain. She tried to inform the local health department here and their answer? "It's nothing to worry about, just don't go to work if you're feeling sick". They had no interest in testing her - not just for my wife's benefit but so they can gather accurate statistics. Who knows what the fuck the real numbers might be if this is happening.

Why is that?

Seems like unless you are in hospital, it doesnt matter......

A local medical centre said they are seeing a.steady stream of cases now..... but our numbers are barely budging for those diagnosed.

Im guessing they just want to keep the satistics low on purpose. Getting the true data musnt mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. Which i guess one could take as that this is so bsd, it's past the point of data.

No doubt it's currently under diagnosed, shows the mortality rates are greatly exaggerated in the stats as only severe and moderate cases are even being recorded.

South. Korea have tested 140000 they have a 0.6 % mortality rate, this is the truest number we have atm, as more cases are recorded mortality rate will drop further.

Or mortality rates will increase as patients that are in serious condition will decease.

I’m pretty sure I had it. I travel every week on planes.  A month ago out of the blue I felt like a truck hit me. Worst body ache. Headache from hell and I never get them and a weaving noise from my chest when I breathe. The doctor brushed it off as the flu and sent me home. A few days later I got better.  All of my symptoms match with corona.

The test ain't gonna help you....We are beyond the testing phase...Probably we will ALL be exposed to this eventually and some will live, some will die...
Although I still don't think it's gonna be worse than the flu.

Good point. I think the main reason to get tested is so you can avoid spreading it.

fucking health companies $3k for a fucking test that likely consists of a swab dabbed on a Petri dish or a drop of saliva in a test tube...

Where are you located? The figures below were published on March 13th.

Medicare has released the prices of COVID-19 tests: $35.92 for the tests developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and $51.33 for all other commercial tests.

The bottom line: These are the prices that labs bill Medicare. Most health insurers have waived copays for coronavirus tests, meaning you won't have to pay anything upfront. If you receive bills for any amount, especially if they are higher than these prices, you should appeal.

Same here, if the true rates were known the mortality rate would be much lower, most countries only test as a last resort after ruling out flu and other things, many people who have been tested after coming into contact with a known carrier are actually non symptomatic that would indicate theres many people walking around with it, no doubt it seems to have a high mortality rate with those over 70, but they also have a high mortality rate with the common flu as stand alone group.

The response is overkill as the potential liability both financial and political is to high, Europe in particular is a basket case for this epidemic with their aging populations, coupled with national health systems that cannot cope with large numbers of sick people at one time, if they slow the infection rate they might have better capacity to manage the ill, it makes sense, but so would a cull on bats as they are well know to carry many potential deadly diseases for humans. But we can't do that in todays basket case of a  politically correct lefty world, or impose economic sanctions on China and the rest of Asia to raise their health standards so as to not repeat this disaster. It will happen again.
