Yes, I have taken statistics and mathematics.

I know that if you take a penny and double it every day for a month you end up with a million dollars.

However, I've never known anyone to accumulate a million dollars in this fashion.  Have you?

Exponential calculations like this never work in reality. They are good for scaring people though.

Wrong. You end up with 10.7 million. It takes 5 seconds to type 0.01 * 2^30. Check it.

Predictive analytics is successfuly used in most fields.

I myself use a simple linear regression model to predict yields in banana plantations, and I'm only an amateur.

It seems to me that your comment about the models being stupid was uninformed.
