I cannot understand why anyone drives drunk when they can call a Lyft or Uber.
Many people who are drunk don't think they are too drunk to drive, regardless if they exceed a BAC of .08%. For the average Getbigger who weighs somewhere between 180 and 220 lbs. that is 5 to 6 drinks in an hour (single shots). There also can be other mitigating factors, such as how some medications effect our level of impairment. Frankly, it surprised me at how much alcohol it takes to get to .08%. I would've thought less. But, most mixed drinks at a bar contain more than one shot. Some people build a tolerance to alcohol over time, and can frequently feel sober even when they’re over the legal limit (this would have been me back when I was drinking).
I might have driven drunk in the past. Taking a taxi or Uber home seemed like a hassle to me because it meant I would have to retrieve my car the next day. Normally, I think I drank less when out than at home because I would try to stick to no more than 2 drinks in an hour (who knows how many shots that was). Also, since I liked scotch neat, I would add in a water chaser in order to stay hydrated. I've only been stopped once when drinking and never ticketed for a DUII. My guess is that I got lucky. Also, I have never been one to go out drinking very often. -Probably less than once a month. Drugs have never been an issue since I don't use them, even the over-the-counter ones that can result in being impaired.
