For reasons too obvious to need mention, this is absolute madness.

similar things going on around the country. Most of it is limited to misdemeanor non violent crimes. I personally would support a temporary system where lesser violations were not custody arrests. It's safer for the jailers, and inmates who may brought into a potential high contamination area for something like an unpaid speeding ticket or a small amount of weed. But that's just my opinion. I haven't read what the ACLU is advocating and it's likely over the top but there are agencies implementing reasonable adjustments during this epidemic

Total bullshit, don't release any, the populations are easily confined anyway. Lock them down in their cells if they're so worried.

They just need to take the same precautions as nursing homes do...

Better yet, let's intentionally infect them with the Kung Flu and save all of us some tax dollars.

Releasing them from forced lockdown to trust them with mandated/voluntary lockdown at home?  Smart.   ::)

There's no point to even keep them alive.

Many prisoners can be released. Many should never be released. And I mean never.

You really want us to believe there are people in prison for these offenses?  ::)

Sorry, there is some confusion here. I didn't read what the ACLU was advocating because no information was provided. The public often uses jail/prison interchangeably. The title of the thread says "jail" not prison. But I can understand your confusion.  Having recently been reading about a similar push in Ft. Worth Tx, Austin Tx, and some other jurisdictions throughout the country to reduce arrests for minor offenses that was where my mind was at in my response. I apologize for any confusion.

"Why We Need to Change Policing Now
As health and medical experts have said, all local law enforcement should be taking whatever steps they can to reduce the number of people that they arrest and put into jail during this public health crisis. Senior staff attorney Carl Takei explains why."

The above is a headline I just took from the ACLU website. It appears I was probably on point.
