Since Getbiggers are from all over the world we have a unique opportunity to get first hand information from a number of different countries.

How is it where you are?

Are you in a lock down? Can you still walk the streets freely? Are the gyms closed? Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers? Are there any shortage in foods or medicine? Do you know anyone who been sick? Have you been sick yourself?

How is it where you are? You can genuinely feel the tension in the air when you're around a bunch of strangers
Are you in a lock down? Yes
Can you still walk the streets freely? Once a day
Are the gyms closed? Yes, even outdoor chin/dips bars are off limits
Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers? Poor effort at best
Are there any shortage in foods or medicine? At times when idiots were hoarding. It's okay right now.
Do you know anyone who been sick? Yes, plenty
Have you been sick yourself? 90% sure I've had it

I know several key workers, people working in hospitals and the emergency services. Saying it's a mess out there would be an understatement and it's gonna get worse.

The most recent story was of a diabetic male nurse in his 50s who caught the virus working at a hospital and was quarantined at home. He was hit hard, his wife called the emergency services, they came and checked his condition, but because of his age and comorbidity they just left him at home to die.

People won't be the same after this. Expect a lot of PTSD

South Africa.

Three week lockdown. If you're out on the street and not buying food or getting essential or emergency services you will be arrested. Have to keep receipt. Not even allowed to walk outside property. No alcohol can be sold and no take-away food.

Economy already heavily damaged and might not ever recover, many businesses won't be able to re-open and others will have to shut down as the economy was already bad before this.

Already spread to a squatter camp, so at least any potential zombie apocalypse will be contained in those areas by the military who are already there enforcing the lockdown. They can't really follow the rules in a squatter camp, but they can't leave either.

Stockholm/Sweden (The Capital)

I only go out (wearing my Anti-Corona Armor consisting of Goggles, Mask, Plastic Gloves, Coat etc covering my whole body) when shopping these days.

I try to purchase as much as i can so i don't have to go shopping so much.

In this area of town, we have plenty o people not caring for the elderly or any risk-groups, coughing and sneezing everywhere, mostly in their general direction. And definitely not thinking of Social distancing.
Myself i try to keep at least 1-2 metres (4-6 feet) between me and anyone else.

I have been bugging the stores ,clerks and cashiers for weeks (i started using mask and gloves already back in February) to start using masks and gloves (many don't even use gloves),
but this week they eventually caved in and started using masks and gloves.

All the stores and pharmacies in this area have also started with putting sheets of plastic in front of the cashier (started this Monday) in an attempt to protect from coughing and sneezing.

No Lockdown is Enforced. NOTHING is enforced, so we have people stacked like sardines on buses and on cafés.

Working from home and all gyms are shut. I only go out to shop for food and there are usually 10-20 minute queues outside as they are only allowing a limited amount of people in at a time.
A woman who I work with came down with Covid-19 after returning from holiday in Hungary. She's recovered now but told me her husband has now got it.
We've been told that the situation could continue for 3-6 months. :(

Not much in victims I could witness with my own eyes.

The hospitals are playing their secrecy game and not taking in any "unnecessary" cases which will cause a lot of older people lots of pain.

Mother(83) has been in contact with medical staff(high viral load) and younger folks for weeks now and shows no symptoms of the disease. Time will tell, but if she exhibits no symptoms in the weeks to come then I'm pretty reluctant to the idea of this whole pandemic.

Time will tell - maybe a lot of people will die... who knows.

Just as many elderly show no symptoms as the rest of the population, if not more so! It's just the ones that do get symptoms, get it bad.

The local hospital said that they have 2 full on cases.
I'm curious how this will develop.

In South Africa they have lines on the ground indicating where everyone must stand.

Also signs everywhere explaining procedures.

Entering the store there is someone to spray customers hands and when exiting, and there are people constantly disinfecting trolleys and baskets. This is compulsory.

People are limited to certain numbers to enter stores, so when people were panic buying, staff would be able to replace stock on shelves and extra shelves for popular food items such as tinned food.

At petrol stations, the attendants are wearing face visors or masks and hand a tray for cash or credit card payments.

The government might be a mess but the private sector is extremely well organised.

At this point, do we know why some people get symptoms and some don’t?

And how do we know that the people who do get symptoms wouldn’t have had those symptoms anyway even without the virus?

Located Netherlands

Experience: good time to make money at the stock exchange
Very good deals when buying a (second hand) car (car sales have collapsed)

Real estate market deteriorating

No total lockdown yet, but bankruptcys, tourisms gone (and tourists forced to leave), and very drastic change in rules / regulations / border with Belgium closed, German border gets difficult

Hospitals in my region have postponed everything non essential
In other harder hit regions patients have to be moved to different hospitals: lack of intensive care beds / too many patients

In general people now seem to be paying attention to social distancing etc. Having more than 100 people die every day helps getting the message accross
If the USA has > 1,000 deaths per day, public opinion will take the chinese virus more seriously

But by then it's already too late I think

(In supermarkets some products are still being hoarded. I think it's a logical and smart human behaviour thing. Stocking up on supplies is always a good thing to do imo)
No food or medication shortages

Southern California, Suburban area, parks are packed. Grocery stores are a little empty but no lines or anything to get it. Most restaurants are doing take out, and most other business are closed.

I have one acquaintance who’s wife is positive, she’s a nurse though.

South Carolina. Business nearly as usual. The governor ordered non-essential businesses closed but if they are non essential who cares, lol. So my hair gets a little longer.

I stopped eating at restaurants regularly about a year ago because I was tired of paying so much for so little. Just after the national media created the panic a few weeks ago my local grocery store was wiped out- and now its running at 90% so pretty much normal. Costco still has big lines because that's where the doomsday morons shop. Publix, Trader Joes, etc are running normal.

I run a tech firm and all the delivery services have actually sped up deliveries.  I saw gas yesterday at $1.49 a gallon so this Wuflu has some nice side effects, haha.

As far as my customers go, who are world wide, it hasn't changed - EXCEPT for China. Not a peep out of them. It's pretty damn obvious- there are a whole lot more sick Chinese than they are letting on. I got word back from one huge customer though - they are still locked down. Not that I care anymore. I have made a business decision to eliminate PRC as a supplier and any customers are now 100% up front payment. The Chinese internal economy is becoming wrecked because of this.

By the way - a close relative works at one of the main hospitals in the city. People are still dying- like they always do. No forklifts in the parking lot though moving bodies.

No. We don't know why some get symptoms and some don't. Mild early Symptoms are also so wide ranging they could very easily get overlooked. eg 10% of people get mild diarrhoea for a couple of days and no other symptoms, or just have a loss of smell/taste, or a bad headache and are back to normal.

Most severe cases start off with these mild symptoms.

So... sounds like the regular, albeit occasionally deadly, flu. I got a flu that lasted about a week in college some years back. Bedridden, violent vomiting, delirium , you name it. A cough that felt like a knife twisting in me. The college stopped classes for a week and we stayed in our dorms. Then it passed and back to work we went.

Too bad we didn't have the internet then. We could have collapsed the global economy!

Yes, but it is far more infectious than flu.
