It’s not essential for most people, including you. You’re muscles serve no purpose other than your vanity.

You’re not a soldier, cop, firefighter, etc. You don’t need to be built, it’s not necessary. Are they going to open up LA fitness for 2 people at a time? No.

Maybe go outside and walk? Get some fresh air.

If your mental state is teetering on being able to pick heavy stuff up and put it back down, you’re already fucked.

Classic Getbig in this thread.

Anybody who workouts and can’t access a gym is suffering in someway.

Coach is a guy who actually works out, in addition to several benefits he mentioned it’s obviously a release for him. And everyone is telling him why his gym use is an “addiction” and he needs to move on.

LOL I love this place.

You can’t win.

Not a myth. One horribly constructed study was published by the NY Times and now it's accepted as Gospel.  If you want real research look to Kenneth Cooper's 52 year research. I could have 800 studies and with one opposition study people walk around like they know the valid truth.  It reminds me of the anti vaccination crowd.
Kenneth Cooper?? Lol...he was debunked years ago. You look at a marathon runner and then look at a lean Olympic lifter who nails his diet. Duh....

I’m beginning to really hurt without my lifting.

Non-stop since ‘85, and now this.

Pushups, etc. only go so far.

Fucking COVID. Asshole chinks.

Fair enough. I know cops, firefighters and other people in civil service that can’t workout either. We all go for walks, I walk along our boardwalk almost everyday, take my dog for a 30min walk everyday, take walks with my wife everyday. I live on a beach. My house is 30 yards from the sand, I get PLENTY of fresh air and so do others, that’s still can’t replace a gym workout. We have Parkinson’s clients who rely on the gym, we have rehab clients that also rely on the gym...what about those people?

Go buy into a personal training studio for a few months the owner will need a partner for the duration off the lockdown and I'm pretty sure you will be able to train in a gym you own even if its closed

Gyms should remain closed. This silent killer is abundant in the gymnasiums. Get over it.

In my neck of the woods we call it "lifting weights". Go buy a fucking bench and a barbell and stop your bellyaching.

The Parkinson’s clients should continue to take their medication. Rehab people are just going to have to pick up their rotator cuff recovery in a few months. I mean, is there anything they’re doing they can’t do ya home?

Cops and firefighters should be able to work out, no questions asked. If the shit hits the fan, we will need them at their best.

I agree that small, boutique gyms should have discretion, but normal gyms designed to get a pump on are not necessary.

I agree coach. How long  have we heard how exercise is critical to our well being ? At least 50 years. And the first chance they get, governments shut down gyms, trails, you name it. Ironically viruses get destroyed in fresh air and sunlight.

At least 50 years and with tons of legit studies to back it.

I don’t agree. Muscles will atrophy if not trained regularly. Hypertrophy is also beneficial especially in older populations.

Large muscles might not be essential or necessary but it is false that they only enhance the ego.

All states shouldn't be treated the same. Obviously, New York is an exception. There's a real panic here in Hawaii because a third person has died and with a rise of 34 people in one day of those testing positive for the coronavirus bringing a total of 237 on an Island of about one million people. To put that in perspective 1/10th of one percent of a million is a 1,000 people. We still have a ways to go before we reach that level of fractional percentage.

In a couple of weeks, I'm going to start a writing campaign to all the gym owners in our state to reconsider opening up under the following conditions: Each entering member has to have their temperature taken. This is easy with those point and shoot thermometers and is being used now when you go into some medical facilities. Also, every member has to wear a face mask and if you take it off while in the gym you will be expelled. This may seem like a hassle but not if you consider the gyms being closed entirely. There should be a team of employees constantly patrolling and wiping and disinfecting the equipment.
