Coronavirus: Trump predicts ‘a lot of death’

At his daily briefing, Mr Trump said "there will be death" in a grim assessment of the days ahead.

He sought to reassure the worst-hit states, promising medical supplies and military personnel to combat the virus.

But in contrast to his warning, Mr Trump suggested easing social-distancing guidelines for Easter.

"We have to open our country again," Mr Trump told a news conference at the White House on Saturday. "We don't want to be doing this for months and months and months."

Mr Trump's calls to relax restrictions came on the day confirmed coronavirus infections in the US surpassed 300,000 , the highest number in the world.

As of Saturday, there were almost 8,500 deaths from Covid-19 in the US, with most in New York state.

New York state recorded 630 more deaths, another daily record that takes its toll to 3,565. The state now has almost as many cases - more than 113,000 - as the whole of Italy, one of the countries worst-hit by coronavirus.

    Read something about the 1918 spanish flu, also assumed a form of corona vírus H1N1, and it came in two "waves". First the elders died. Then the young.

The first wave of the Spanish flu killed mostly  the old and children like most flus. The second wave spared the old and children as those who survived mostly had immunity. The young started to die in the second wave as many were bunched together because of the war. They couldn't isolate so the virus just turned into a more and more deadly flu and then spread to the masses. This time it could take anyone out who wasn't immune.

The conditions for that happening aren't there with covid19 and it doesn't look like it's a virus that can mutate like the flu. Doesn't mean it should be ruled out though as what happens with the virus in poor crowded populations is anyones guess. Getting infected now with covid19 and developing immunity wouldn't be the worst thing.

I must say you’ve been very spot on about this.

Following the crash of 2008, there was no structural reform. The problems were just papered over by printing money. 12 years later the bubble has popped again and now there’s another reset via a market crash and money printing. In 10 years they’ll be another crisis. I suspect it will be pensions. Most are hopelessly insolvent and eventually will need a federal bail out.

Also with Spanish, widespread malnutrition and poor living conditions post war probably contributed to a lot more deaths in the young age groups.
