I hear conflicting statements in regards to the monarchy’s real power. Do they have power at all? Or are they just inbred rich folks with bad teeth?
Only ceremonial and public events etc, Parliament runs the country and makes the laws. Though technically the Queen is Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and 'appoints' the Prime Minister but in reality has no power and this is ceremonial.
Same as in a Republic such as Italy, the President only has a ceremonial role, while Parliament is led by the Prime Minister and is therefore the elected leader of the country.
