Humans have become too reliant on electricity and electronics, there is zero back-up system or systems in place to keep society going and the vast majority of people are not prepared, especially those in cities.
If we think this virus is bad, if a huge solar flare or some other anomaly fries electrical circuits across the planet and leads to electrical grid shutdowns, globally, it will be an apocalypse. Apparently these could take weeks or months to restore.
