The era of the commercial gym is over
« on: April 16, 2020, 12:09:53 PM »
The commercial gym business as we've known is abruptly all over. Moving forward bodybuilding and powerlifting contests will largely be battles of who owns the better equipped home gyms.

With this in mind, you will see a rise in more affluent individuals with superior physiques. Poor, broke members of society won't be able to afford a well appointed home gym.

You don't need a fancy gym to have a good physique. I can find heavy things in my back alley.

You could be right or you could be wrong. I think once things, including gyms, more people will flock to them than ever. Nothing makes a person hungrier than not eating for awhile.

You must be downright dangerous after a few weeks without sucking on a cock.

In commercial gyms.. people will be afraid of the locker room, bathroom, and shower areas. Imagine people will be doing cardio with masks on.

I'm not convinced of this. Went to the market yesterday and a whole lot of people were sans mask.

That may be the case 18 months from now, maybe more. Very few owners are going to still be in business when that day comes. Plus, those without home gyms will have lost their physiques by then and have to start from scratch.
Muscle memory.

Bullshit.   Planet Fitness will still be around.  24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness too.  It may just take them awhile to come back, like every other business in our new world.  If any business has enough capital to ride out this mess, they’ll be back.  If they don’t have the capital, as many smaller and marginal businesses don’t, they won’t make it back.

Most gyms are barely making it from one month to the next, without a pandemic going on. It's over.

If there is a demand they will come back. Stop being a nancy boy.

Big chain gyms will due to gobbling up market share.

Many small gyms will close. An exception will be the hardcore barbell clubs that offer "special training and supplementation".

The big players in almost every business sector have somehow been able to become a "necessary" business. The mom and pops are getting killed.

Thread couldn’t come at a better time. Trump just released his 3 phase plan and the 1st phase allows for the re-open of gyms! Based on your state governor first of course, so you better hope your gubernator is a lifter and not a soy boy

I'm not sure about Planet Fitness, but it is probably a franchise like 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness. Whether the franchisee recovers or not depends on how much financial assistance they get from the franchiser.

I am sure about Planet Fitness.  If it is not the biggest gym franchise in the country, I'd be surprised.  At a minimum, it has to be the fastest growing gym franchise.

Wonder why that is. What does Planet Fitness have to offer that the other two don't?

The $10.00 a month gyms are not going anywhere.

The more expensive gyms may be more affected, as people now realize even more that you don’t need an expensive gym to stay in shape.

They started in NH and I have two nearly 20k sq ft ones within six miles of where I live. They were the first to close on March 17th and the smaller gyms hung on until the end of March.
