Maybe...
But young Black men do commit 56% of all gun violence in the USA...
Think about that, Vince:
Young Black men are 3.5% of the population, and commit more gun violence than the remaining 96.5% of the population.
So, yes - you get profiled. In light of the statistics above, does that surprise you?
By the way - where I am in Canada, although Indigenous people [mostly males] commit 80% of our homicides year after year, White men are still the #2 group committing violence [well...because we are the largest group in terms of population size...and now that Thunder Bay's Black population has increased from 1% to 2%, our crime has skyrocketed, LOL!!! Although, to be fair, that's because almost all the new 1% increase in Black population to our city are specifically Black gang members from Toronto, here to fill the void in our illegal narcotics trade, since John Tsekouras was arrested {and, IMO, convicted on BULLSHIT terms, but whatever}].
My point is - as a young man, I get profiled to.
Do I dislike it?
Yeah...I do. But I have to acknowledge the reality that young men do commit a majority of the violent crimes.
And young White men commit more violence than young Black women do...even though race IS a predictor of violence, gender is an even GREATER predictor of violence...
So hey - I admit it - young men, including young WHITE men [ages 18-40...or even maybe 15-40, or something like that] DO commit more violent crime.
Do people have a right to profile me? Absolutely!
Do I like it?
No.
All that I'm saying is this, Vince:
In your shoes, I would NOT like being profiled by race. But in fairness, there IS a reason why people profile - be it based on biological sex, age, or...yes...even race! [I would say, ESPECIALLY race, LOL...although mathematically, I suppose biological sex is the biggest predictor of violence].
Does it offend me that people profile me based on age [something that HAS been reducing as I am now pushing 40, and I notice is reducing when interacting with the population, making it clear to me that people are perceiving me as a man in my later 30's, and less likely to be under 25, although I am still asked for ID most times I buy alcohol, which is rarely]?
Yes, it does.
But I have to simply acknowledge the reality that people have a reason to profile young males.
And all I'm saying to you is that, statistically speaking, there is even more reason to profile young Black males.
And you are turning 43 this year, if my memory is serving me well. But as they say - "Black don't crack", and I don't really feel you are looking much older than you were when I originally met you on MuscleMayhem in 2004].
So...I hate to say it - but you will continue to be profiled as a young male for a few years yet to come.
Forget race for a second, Vince. The reality is, you will be profiled as being a young male, and that is probably an even stronger basis by which people profile other people, with respect to violence.
As I said, I don't like it...
But I do accept it.
And yes, I acknowledge that as a Black male, you most likely experience more of this than I do. But it's not like there is no statistical reasoning for that.
People generalize and stereotype. What can I say? I wish it wasn't like that, but it's not like there is no reason why it's happening.
You should get your stats somewhere else other than David Duke. You also need to consider where that violence is directed to which its mainly gang violence and drug trafficking....a huge problem with my community but is mostly contained to its contestants. You would be hard pressed to find a black man who killed over 70 people like the person in Norway, or a black person who went on a mass shooting spree, or a black man who kills his entire family in a murder suicide.....or a group of black men who will take over a federal building, or one who would march to the state capital brandishing and pointing rifles at people without getting shot.
Matt...you really need to get out in the real world instead of just looking at numbers. And by the way, I won't be profiled as a young black male because I'm not young....My hair is mostly gray when I don't cut it as well as my beard. That's why I shave all the time and use a skin conditioner
