Guy was never meant for bodybuilding that's for sure. Great strongman build and looked great in cloths though.

He was the second most successful bber in his generation. From 1968 through 1976 he never lost in his class only losing to Arnold. Some may not have liked his physique but to say he should have never become a bber when he was one of the most successful in his generation and is looked on as a legend is preposterous. Only Franco and Arnold were able to make a living from bbing during their generation.

I checked out the 1976 Olympia and Franco had that same gyno on his right pec that he did in 81. He didn't have that in 1975 where it seemed like he looked better. Maybe people didn't notice those things back then but it's pretty obvious.

When you watch the whole 5 part series in part two you can see how primitive the "pump up" room was. It looks like they're in the basement. There's a part where Franco is looking for something to do pullups on and gets to guy to hold this frame steady and when Franco tries to do pullups the handles break off. It looks like a real cheesy production.

When I think of bbing labrada, Padilla, comes to mind over Franco. Both of them imo, have better physiques. I like physiques with flow, aesthetics. Doesn’t mean they’ll win shows over another bber without those attributes

Kind of like how Shawn Ray compared to dexter. Dexter has the better resume, but his physique doesn’t flow and stand out like Shawn does. Plus Shawn’s posing was graceful and bbing art

Same for Nubret, reeves, flex, Cormier, Rory, etc
