My goal for next year
« on: May 27, 2020, 10:25:24 PM »
I`ll be 65 this coming June 7th. and since my Cancer is in remission I`m gonna start working out next week after I pick up a few dumbells and other stuff I`ll need.

Right now I look like shit (stopped training when I was 61 due to a bad shoulder but still got 3 sets of flyes for 12 reps with the 70`s with short rest periods between sets at the time weighing 165 pounds.)

Anyway,my terrible legs have shrunk as have my arms and delts...............pecs and taper still look decent for no training but my waist has thickened a bit (just safety fat though).  ;)

My plan is to walk daily for cardio as I do have COPD but I`ll push myself.
Elevated pushps for pecs increasing reps a I go and decreasing rest time. Dumbell laterals, bent over laterals, one armed triceps extensions close grip pushups hands in "V" position and various forms of dumbell curls plus chinups.............all this will be done at home as I could care less about bodybuilding I just want to look great next year at 66 years of age.......not spending 650 bucks a year at a gym full of idiots anymore.

I`ll do abs 3 times a week in giant set style and use my precontest diet 6 out of the 7 days in the week.

I will post a pic next year of me ripped with insane abs and a nicely tanned physique.

When I commit myself to a goal I have tunnelvision so I`m serious and no roids I dont need them plus I want to show Oldtimer what I can do clean at 66.

I`ll be posting the pics around June 7th. of next year.................... ..........."wait until you see it" !! (In my best Franco voice ) !!

Awesome goal Wes! Before you get started, a couple of pointers and caveats: Start slow. As a novice your focus needs to be on Form. Even when doing the walking. You want to obtain a decent pair of sneakers. New Balance are good. When you do the pushups , keep your posterior chain aligned and your abs pulled in. Very important. And be especially careful with the weights as your joints are older and can get hurt very easily. You should really be working with a personal trainer who will teach you this stuff and the subtle nuances. Hit me up with a PM and I will send my abs program. Best of luck in your new fitness journey! (And it's about the JOURNEY as much as the destination.

Good news on the cancer!

As for legs, I don't even bother using weights anymore. Too much pressure on my spine anyways. I bike ride and the easiest way to get big quads is to sprint at about 3/4 speed up a slight hill. Completely rest between efforts until your breathing is back to normal and repeat 3-5 times. I actually do this for  racing and recently started training for racing again. My quads will blow up to about 25 inches after a few months of this. You might be able to do this. The very short (20 second ) exertions with long rests are possible with COPD.

I wish you well and success. I don't know why you have to show me.  Is taking replacement testosterone taking steroids?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Nothing personal Rich but I know your stance on steroids.............the y do work and help guys make much better gains than they normally would without the use of them.............no doubt about it.

Just gonna illustrate that getting in great condition can be done without gear and with just hard work and a good diet along with being consistant.

I`m not on TRT and will not be on anything once I embark on this plan.

I know you like to say ,and I`m not saying that you`re wrong, that a lot of guys would be nothing without gear.

I`m just gonna train to be lean/hard and in good shape..............I never took bucket loads of gear anyway, per se`, and prided myself on my work ethic and dedication to be able to eat like a Spartan for as long as it took to get contest ready.

The only winner will be this old rundown body of mine !!

Wes, are you going to go back to doing the same old programs and exercises? Seems wasteful to me. Pick one good exercise per body part and do lots of sets.

That is it. You don't need to do all body parts. Pull downs, bench and squats and that is it. Full body workout. Try a short workout of just 3 exercises twice a week. Should get you going. I swear

bodybuilders will take their coveted ideas to their graves. If you just love lifting then what can I say? Do what you have to do.

Vince at the moment I`m not sure whether I am going to rejoin the gym or workout at home.

Obviosly if I work out at home I`m limited by my lack of equipment............we`ll see.

Remember to get your protein straight from the tap - the only way to ensure it's unprocessed and organic. Good luck!
